Anything can be weird if taken too far; I'd imagine you might do a double-take at someone walking down the street in a full hazmat suit, for example.

i am confused. where did i mention hazmat suits? i was simply saying, the fact, that people are not stupid or weird for wearing masks, during a pandemic. i really dont see the point in attemtping to turn this into something its not

You said "how can someone be a weirdo for protecting themselves against a virus?", I provided an example of someone protecting themself from a virus in a way that would strike most people as weird.

Almost everyone here in NYC wear masks. They might not wear one while taking a walk in a park.

If you’re on a bus and you don’t have a mask over your nose, someone on the bus will call you out on it.

Where I live, the bus driver will refuse to let you board the bus if you are not wearing a mask.

Here in the UK there plans for lifting all restrictions and some are calling for an end to vaccine mandates, mask wearing and so on. I seem to think that some people are now saying that those who are still wearing a mask are treating everyone even if they are un-masked as being vectors of disease. I want to at some point or another take my masks off when things get better but there seems to now be this perception by some people, probably those who don't mask up and stuff that mask wearing makes someone look ''stupid'' and ''idiotic'' and are not comfortable at all being outside with other people. I know there is no need to wear one outside in the fresh air but if I am in a busy high street I wear when I am popping in and out of shops rather than constantly putting my mask on and taking off whilst going in and coming out. I mean there are those like me who are still anxious and wearing a mask, two masks or how many more should not make us look like over-anxious disease-phobes, they are doing it to protect each other even though masks like vaccines are not 100% perfect at stopping transmission.

When a government announces the lifting of restrictions on mask wearing and some people take it as ''freedom day'' and stop wearing them and there are still those who are still wearing them, those people are then labelled as looking stupid or ridiculous or whatever and say masks don't work against transmission whatsoever even though there is some evidence that they limit only some transmission.

Given the current climate around Covid, am thinking that everyone engaging in public interactions should be wearing
Surgical Masks . 8O

We still have indoor mask mandates here. Very few people complain about them. It's just habit/routine now. If they weren't required, I bet a lot of people would still wear them for a while - in part to protect themselves, but also to respectfully protect others from them if they may have an asymptomatic case.

Only time will tell when vaccine mandates and masks etc may be lifted (when the stats say there's no/very little additional benefit to it is when I'd imagine those things would happen) & then we'll see how people behave. Maybe everyone will lose their masks.. or maybe most - but I bet many of the elderly and immunocompromised will continue to mask up for a while yet.

I actually hope some people do continue to wear masks even though I personally can't stand wearing one for any length of time, just to keep them normalized so as to frustrate widespread facial recognition. I like the idea that I can cover my face if I want to without drawing attention simply by doing so, it's good to have the option.

No. There are many reasons that some people continue to wear masks.

Everyone I have seen whenever I go out is still wearing masks. I even have yet to see people where I live refusing to wear masks, throwing a huge stink over wearing masks, or harassing other people for wearing masks.

I guess I really am "lucky".

Idk I feel kind of weird not wearing a mask in public now. Mask mandates have been lifted where I live for now so I have gone into places without one but it does feel kind of weird now, whereas initially if felt weird to wear a mask.

Even though many mask mandates have been lifted, staff at stores, restaurants are still required to wear masks. Personally, I follow the guidelines of staff - hence, I continue to wear a mask in (esp. in indoor) public spaces.

Wearing a mask during cold weather, poor air quality days (yellow dust), or when sick is normal and common in some Asian countries, Korea for example.

If I was in Korea, I would be considered smart and respectful for wearing a mask. Its a shame that Americans don't recognize this.

Besides, in the end, it's MY health and MY life, so who cares what others think.

At the beginning of Covid I worked at a grocery store. I wore a mask but no one else did. Customers and coworkers avoided me. It was great! I got a lot of work done. LMBO

I live in NYC and if you're in the bus not wearing a mask most bus operators will tell you to put it on.

Where i live even indoors mask restrictions have been lifted.

In my workplace people often ask me why am i wearing one. I have no idea why it bothers them when i repeated again and again that my parents are elderly and i am afraid of risking them. I have no idea why people can't comprehend the fact that some people don't like taking risks.

Some people who may have been comfortable with masking before may not like being reminded that the pandemic isn't actually over. You're disrupting their denial.

Good for you for protecting your loved ones. We are far from alone in continuing to mask.
