Some artists from well known boy bands or girl groups went to have a solo career and some artists from those were never heard of went on do so. Why is that?

There's likely lots of reasons. Sometimes people lose interest in music or find other career paths, sometimes a member/former member might not attract the attention to make it worth their effort.

Could be anything. Maybe that is what they wanted. Maybe they had better opportunities. Maybe they only way to know for certain is for you to ask the artists themselves, because none of us here is an artist in or from a boy/girl band, and none of us can read their minds.
