I'm very easily distracted by certain noise and cannot ignore it. Babies crying is one of my biggest noise phobias. I envy everyone else who can think "aw it's only a baby, it can scream all it wants, I'll quite happily endure it with ease". I just can't think that way. Sorry. Otherwise, babies are cute.
Low thumping noises in the room above always hurts my ears for some reason. It's not the volume, it's the pitch and how the sound travels from higher floors down to lower floors. I have to wear noise-cancelling headphones when at home because the people in the apartment above us only have to walk across their floor and it feels like my ear drums are about to burst.
And lastly there are noises that make me jump, like car horns. I am very easily startled so it's quite painful to my nerves when some sudden loud noises occur. People sneezing often startles me too. I don't know why.
For some reason fireworks don't startle me.
Yep, I'm very vigilant to sounds even though my hearing tests below average for my age. I can't hear sounds others can't, but I am sensitive to sounds others know how to tolerate.
