I never really wanted children, but after I met my husband, who said he did not want to be with me if I didn't want children, and because he is such a great person, I really wanted to have a family with him. I have an almost 1 year old daughter, and although I think a lot about how nice it would be to not have a child (mostly when she wakes up at 3 in the morning), but I just love her so much and I love watching her learn and grow, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Plus, it is very romantic to me to watch my husband hold our daughter and rock her to sleep and care for her.

We are probably only going to have one child though.

Tallgirl.

Nice.

Ya know, it's funny you say that , Hale Bopp. I 'm the same way. Other people's babies look, well....ugly to me, usually. That's horrible to admit! I have very little patience, interest, or nurturing instinct towards children or babies as a rule.

But I like mine just fine!! !! !

I am definitely not the maternal sort.....I don't think I had ever even held or touched a newborn until I had one...and yet I get very protective and nurturing towards my own.

Oh well. Hopefully as long as your kids do not try to kill me (highly unlikely), they are the some of the most awesome in the world.

Nevermind. Ignore this post.

That's a very hypothetical question. I guess, if I ever had a girlfriend for a long time and we got married, the question would arise. The possibility that these preconditions will ever happen makes my preference null.

Voted no. Didn't like kids when I was one and I still don't. Feel estranged from other humans, they're family-oriented & I'm uninterested in the whole people-making business.
Feel it's expected of me to be a typical female, I have the opposite reactions instead. Disgust, revulsion, not "oh isn't that cute" or instinct to protect children-just avoid them.
Pressure to not offend or hurt feelings or invite attack, by writing this, bc. of my opinion.

I voted no. I don't connect with people very well, and after a lifetime of bullying, being around children all day would bring back bad memories. Plus, kids are noisy and require constant contact. I work better with things and ideas rather than people.

Posted 2 months ago, and forget to make a selection.

I selected unsure because as I said before, I like kids and feel to let them live a good childhood. Hence, letting me experience some of what I probably missed out on when I was young.

But I still feel I need to be on my own and tend to lose concentration, which would probably be at the wrong time. So that is where I see the dilemma factor.

I'm undecided on the issue, but given my young age, that's to be expected. I've got a lot of lifespan left to decide.

I made the decision at 17 that I did not want children and that has not changed 24 years later.

I'm sure there could be all manner of fancy psychological theories as to why this is so, but for me it is purely a matter of economics and personal preference. I can barely give myself a lifestyle with any dignity, so I somehow doubt that I could provide one for a family.

Having come from a Mix 'n' Match type of family growing up on state benefits, it became abundantly clear that I could never impose that life sentence onto anyone else. To be a good parent usually requires that you have on balance, had a reasonably good childhood.
