So, last Monday, my partner (who's currently in her home country with her sick mom) went for a regular gyno checkup and got a urine test done. Turns out her glu level was 250 mg/dl. The doc thinks it might be diabetes (but didn't want to freak her out), and honestly, it's like 99% Type 2 diabetes. They told her to lay off sweets for now, and her next appointment is on 1st August for more tests.
I was like, "Why wait so long? This sounds serious, just see an endocrinologist right away" But she's all like, "Nah, don't worry too much."
Then today, she sends me a pic of her munching on ice cream, and I ask, "Is it sugar-free?" She just laughs and says, "I dunno." That got me hit the roof.
I mean, she's 42, not a kid anymore. I dig her young spirit, which is cool, but there's a difference between being young at heart and just plain immature, and I can't stand the latter, this act was immature.
I was like, "Can't you have some self-control till you get diagnosed and start treatment? That ice cream is most likely 25% sugar!" Treating Type 2 diabetes ain't that hard—just a bit of self-discipline and some pills after meals, or it gets risky. A few days ago, she was complaining about "burning and numbness in her feet at night," which is like classic long-term high blood sugar stuff. I told her it's probably diabetes and she should get it checked out asap.
At least she should listen to her doctor.
