To avoid derailing this thread, I've posted more about this matter in a separate new thread here.

I'm almost at 1 month dry.
Just today I'm beginning to feel like I need a drink but trying not to. :(

Nothing wrong with the odd drink but try to stay within government limits. (14 units a week).

Oh well, if the government approves it must be my civic duty to drink and raise revenue for my country by supporting the insane alcohol tax. :?

I'm totally not lowkey eyeing the hand sanitizer I got from work that says it's made out of 70% ethyl alcohol. I would never.

I'd be worried about what's in there besides alcohol.

Still trying to cut down. Have switched from Magners cider to gin and diet tonic to cut my sugar intake down. No mention of diabetes on my last visit to the doc so seems to have worked in that regard. Liver function was unchanged.

Not doing too well at the moment in terms of units per week. Probably about 80. Have swiched from cider to gin and diet tonic which seems to have sorted my blood sugar level out.

I've been the same or worse for the past 12 years. Problems with neighbours, anxiety, stress. At least I'm not getting falling down drunk like I was about 10 years ago when I lived in a tower block in Wigan with loads of traffic noise keepng me awake. I had a bad gallbladder attack and thought I was a goner. Gallbladder seems OK now and no blood in my urine or stools so that's something gppd I suppose.

I'm on Prozac and Olanzapine plus vitamin tablets. Think the Olanzapine helps me sleep better.

It's a pity they can't give you an alcohol substitute

Personally, it took about 2 weeks before enough of it was out of the system to real feel. I think round about the 6 month mark, was when it got really bad again and I finally was ready to admit why I was using in the first place.

From there on, it got a lot easier, because I'd already lost all the friends I was going to lose and could focus on building a decent life. At this point, I'm about as close to cured as people get, but I don't touch the stuff just because of how much of a famous last words that is. Not to mention that the alcohol wasn't really adding anything to my life anyways.

But, each time one beats the urge, it does get a little easier, it just doesn't seem like it at the time when all the energy you can muster is going to not climbing back into that bottle and just living there.
