Awesome! What's it called?

it is the original Metropolis that has been worked over by advanced digital signal processing to provide for uniform exposure/brightness/contrast, colorized, digitally sharpened, frame-rate-upconverted to 60 frames per second, and rendered in UHD [4k] definition.

Also, the American release had heavily redacted parts of the movie that would offend American Puritans. I don't know if the German version - more worldly for those times - has survived.

Shirley.

Fictionalized story where author Shirley Jackson and her college professor husband open their home to one of his former students and his pregnant wife. Despite struggling with her own mental illness, Jackson bonds with the pregnant woman who inspires her to write a new book, and commiserate with her over their philandering husbands' adultery.
Very enjoyable movie. Anyone who likes biopic films about writers should like this.

The Ruins (2008)

A horror film about tourists exploring an ancient temple and encountering killer plants. I looked away during some gruesome bits but enjoyed the overall plot. Hardly any jump scares.

Spirit Halloween

This is one of those movies which would be noticeably improved by taking away half the moments of the characters clowning on each other. Some lines of them teasing each other are decently written, but it's so excessive, that they don't feel like friends. I do like the premise, which is why I watched it, with the characters being stuck in a Halloween store. There are some decent moments with that, yet it's held back by not embracing a horror atmosphere.

I highly recommend it. Edward G. Robinson is brilliant in it.

One odd thing about it--Ida Lupino looks perfectly coiffed and pretty throughout, even when the ship is sinking. Fake eyelashes remain in place. The men are allowed to look like tramps.

The Sunset Limited.

Based on the Cormac McCarthy play, in which a black excon living in poverty tries to talk a white, upper middle class professor out of suicide. Sometimes funny, very dark two man movie.

Last night I watched:

Frozen Alive [1964]
<=>"Suspended animation or death!"

Very barely better than boring.

What I found most noticeable was actor ages. IMDb lists nine male and two female actors for this film. One of the male actors in a minor role is apparently not significant enough, in general, for IMDb to list his birth date.
-The ages of the two female actors were 32 and 33.
-The eight known ages of the male actors were: 34, 48, 57, 59, 59, 64, 65, and 70.
And the 34-year old didn't get much screen time.

In other words, those gals looked noticeably younger than the guys!

I recently watched The Mark of Zorro (1940). It was great! I especially loved the swordfight between Zorro and Captain Estaban.

The Desert Hawk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=384TsVN5s8c

The movie includes a young Jackie Gleason, plus Joe Besser, who eventually joined the 3 Stooges act.

I don't really recommend it. Hard to tell if it is trying to be a comedy or an adventure. Doesn't really succeed at either.

An interesting point--the Desert Hawk marries Princess Scheherazade under false pretenses--he was disguised as the prince that she was supposed to marry. Modern audiences would yell "RAPE!! !" (although, of course, the consummation isn't shown--only suggested). And, of course, by the end of the movie she falls in love with the husband.

Turtles All The Way Down - The cast is excellent and has great chemistry. I thought it balanced the serious topic of OCD very well with more lighthearted moments. One of the best movies of the year, easily, but there are some changes from the book that reduce it somewhat. Still recommended.
