What do you think of Public Service Announcements that used to be in cartoons?
It's amazing how in a matter of 10 years, we would never see things like this anymore:

Do you think Public Service Announcements had a positive effect, or were they merely pointless propaganda aimed at children?
What about obvious Political Correctness in children's cartoons?

The first example was probably the remixed Ghostbusters cartoon series known as "Extreme Ghostbusters." It changed the team from all middle aged men, to: a middle-aged man in a wheelchair, a young punk-ish woman, a young hispanic man, a black man (though that was the same as in the old series), and everyone's favorite Aryan: Egon (also not a change from the old series).

Do you think children should learn diversity, or do you think the diversity appearing in cartoons is a false view of the world that will end up confusing children?

it's hard to say about the whole "all white guys" vs the "overly and obnoxiously diverse" issue. mainly because i'm a white male.

while i think it is important to give roles where they're needed and they fit.....i don't think forcing diversity helps.....if anything, it seems like it'd be demeaning...pity roles and character profiles. but hey, i'm also against black hispanic, women, cripple, and whatever else month they come up with. it's a joke...pride comes from within yourself...not in some little pity package put together by a bunch of bleeding hearts who end up being more racist because they think so little of minorities to think that they need the ego boost.

but then again.....white male....i really don't have much ground on this one to really take a firm stance on....though i'm always open to other voices (especially non-cauc).

Have you ever seen Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue? It is the perfect argument against doing this in children's cartoons.

So is it the message you two hate, or how it's presented?

The PC gets old. The PC is not just limited cartoons, though. Most of the historical epic movies coming out now are now chock full of it.

I missed the good old days when cartoons didn't contain humans at all unless they were evil. I wished they would bring back cartoons like the carebears, or david the gnome, the gummi bears, smurfs exc. I think for kids cartoons are more about fantasy not people and all their messed up problems.

I read somewhere that over 80% of kids dreams are about animals not humans. It seems to me putting all the complicated messages and inneundos into cartoons is just going to confuse kids and are more for the parents' sakes then the child's.

Of course if i had children i would never let them watch tv unless it was highly informative given that TV is a very bad drug.
