Hey y'all, new here and just wanted to say hello. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 30, and I've recently been reading Unmasking Autism by Devon Price and that has been making me rethink it. I have taken tests before, but I think I could have easily gamed the tests and I'm trying to be honest with myself about how much I may be masking now and my whole life. The more I read this book, the more I keep having aha moments. I'm guessing that it's common for Aspies to adapt and hide their struggles, even from themselves.

Any suggestions here? Should I go for testing? I am thinking of trying to find someone that does MIGDAS-2 as I have heard good things. Also, where may be a good place to start integrating this new way of looking at myself.

If you can afford it and think it's possible you'll be confirmed it's probably worth pursuing.

ADHD has some traits in common with Autism.

It can be confusing.

Perhaps one of the online tests for Autism could help clarify the situation?

Whether you are ADHD, or ASD, or both...you're NeuroDivergent and WP is a wonderful place for you to frequent.

Welcome to Wrong Planet.

Aspie with ADHD. I am an Aspie without ADHD. So let us look at the definition of ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. People with ADHD experience an ongoing pattern of the following types of symptoms:
-- Inattention means a person may have difficulty staying on task, sustaining focus, and staying organized, and these problems are not due to defiance or lack of comprehension.
-- Hyperactivity means a person may seem to move about constantly, including in situations when it is not appropriate, or excessively fidgets, taps, or talks. In adults, hyperactivity may mean extreme restlessness or talking too much.
-- Impulsivity means a person may act without thinking or have difficulty with self-control. Impulsivity could also include a desire for immediate rewards or the inability to delay gratification. An impulsive person may interrupt others or make important decisions without considering long-term consequences.

In my humble opinion, this is a condition caused by stress. Many people who experience meltdowns shift between different parts of their brain. Stress is the driver for this condition. Humans are one of the most complex creatures that have ever existed. In general, the way to offload stress is to be yourself. It doesn't make you many friends but the few you have left will be friends for life.

In my humble opinion there are two tools that you can use to offload stress. First is exercise. Perform strenuous exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Second is sleep. Humans need around 2 hours of deep sleep each night in order to dissolve the stress away. This is Deep NREM sleep and REM sleep. Some of your brains function during the daytime but others function during the night.

Thanks for the tips and welcomes. I relate a lot to shutting down when I feel overwhelmed, but I'm pretty good at faking it when I'm around people. And going to another space feels accurate too. I've taken the RAADS and Aspie test--both were somewhat borderline, but I feel like I probably gamed them. My childhood was also riddled with trauma, so that confuses a lot of this.

Believe in yourself. You have some special skills. Skills that others (NTs) do not possess. These are like gifts, special gifts.
