I just read this whole thing and figure I am close to banning. I was warned once, about language, which I got lazy about because of the filters. I am very careful there as I agree we do not need to be quite so vulgar when kids can be around. Plus, someone thinks I am constantly harassing them when in fact I am not even talking to or about them. They keep calling me a troll. Since they have favor with the moderators, I must conclude I am in trouble. Oh yeah, I am a perv…so I hear. But I am working on that one. I certainly have never meant anything to be taken that way.

My opinion...warnings work and should be used unless it is clear the intent of the person is to make trouble. I for one have no desire to do so, but have gotten so familiar with a lot of people that I let my guard down some times. I'd hate to get banned without knowing when and where I crossed a line. This place, and my freinds in it, are an important part of my life right now.

I read this and I'm not sure how close I am to getting banned. I'm bad with grey areas in rules so I'm really not sure. I won't get mad if someone tells me. I don't want to get banned.

Please tell me that this was in the period
where things all fell apart. Warnings like
this shouldn't have been going out, in the
first place.

It was in the middle of the summer. Was that when things were falling apart? I had quoted a now banned member and used some of the same language they had used. I got so used to them and other people using the f-bomb, that I didn't "self correct". Since the filter changed it, I thought nothing of it. Prior to that I usually wrote f***, not even aware that the filter was what was doing it in everyone else's posts.

Yeah. That was NOT the best period to be
here. Using the word "f**k" without screwing
to avoid the filter, is not a problem, IN AND OF
ITSELF. The warnings were directed at the wrong
issue, which should have been the flaming which
was going on. And, those same warnings caused
a definite loss of a number of members.

If I said something bad, I would rather be warned by the Mod via PM. Perhaps I would argue the point a bit but would also recognise they had authority to give me a warning.

So, what is the appeals process to overturn a ban?

e-mail (or PM) Alex, is probably the
best method. The mods apparently
have the ability to overturn, but
'twas a difficult decision to make,
without knowing the specifics of the
ban.

Personally, I'm for a mass amnesty,
but that didn't get any support from
the staff.

Stupid question. What's a sock puppet?

A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an Internet community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks while pretending not to, like a puppeteer manipulating a hand puppet.[1]

In current usage, the perception of the term has been extended beyond second identities of people who already post in a forum to include other uses of misleading online identities. For example, a NY Times article claims that "sock-puppeting" is defined as "the act of creating a fake online identity to praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one’s self, allies or company."[2]

The key difference between a sockpuppet and a regular pseudonym is the pretence that the puppet is a third party who is not affiliated with the puppeteer.

The term was first employed on Usenet in reference to Earl Curley, who had used various pseudonyms to defend his character and arguments and to denigrate his opponents.[citation needed]

I sure hope there arent NT punk motherf_ckers like Max the bear from AFF who deliberately try to provoke aspies to cross the line. If he comes here I hope his 455 gets banned. I should like to think while the administrator is in the US they wont be so overly eager to ban people for not being proper. Unlike that lymie cow Amy Nelson.
