Hi yall
I know televangelism has a horrible reputation among Americans. We often think of people like Kenneth Copeland and Jim Bakker and Joel Osteen when we think of televangelism however one faith tradition seeks to do televangelism differently. The appeals for money on the air started in this area so they could stay on the air. Greedy people like Oral Roberts soon discovered it was a way to get filthy rich tax-free The Church of Christ has a different funding model generally than the standard televangelist.

Church of Christ media ministries are typically funded by donations from churches of Christ. These churches of Christ get their money from the free will offerings of their members not tithes. The late church of Christ televangelist Mack Lyon who for a number of years was the most famous Church of Christ member never wanted to be a showman. He vowed to be humble. He was the anti-televangelist and the anti-Jim Bakker. Mack Lyon started out by buying his own airtime out-of-pocket.

I have never seen a church of Christ televangelist ask for money on air. I think Mack Lyon lived in a 2,100 square foot house which is far cry from the mansions of most famous tv preachers. Mack Lyon never got rich from preaching.
