Hallo all.
I'm locally known as DK.
I am a European automotive engineer and probably a lot older that most of you here. I was born in November of 1945..
I'm am undiagnosed.
Have a surprised daughter of 38, who now find she has a 14 y/o daughter with A/S.
She called me two years ago to tell me she had written, NO...on the form that said: 'Any other family members with a/s?'
I then told her my story.
I emigrated to the USA in 1987. Have my own 'one man' automotive shop.
Used to drive truck all over Europe...... and have been most everywhere in Northern Europe and USA....except California...and they are more crazy than I am!
I have had this "syndrome" for most of my life, but it was never recognized as a/s and I came to the conclusion I was not 'right' many, many years ago.
I have 'learned' to handle situations that earlier would have resulted in me avoiding them.
My philosophy now is 'First Do No Harm'.
I realize this is, or was, the opening to the oath taken by doctors.
But, after so many years of hurting others, at the age of 45, I had to do something about this.
I keep very much to myself and have the advantage of being able to do this without others being offended, so I indulge myself.
However, since trying to help my daughter come to grips with the a/s of my g/d Tazmin, research has finally lead me here and I feel that
I may be able to offer help and guidance to any who feel left out or don't know how to handle some facets of their lives and feel I maybe have contributed a little.....as well as getting an insight into how others have delt with, and deal with the many aspects of a/s..
As someone once said..." I'm not a doctor, but I'll have a look."
.
