I'm pretty sure their liberal (economic) policies are why they're friends with big business.
A lot of people lose sight of the fact that neo-liberals have captured parties on both the left and right in the west.
Ironically, I'd expect Aussies to be more aware of this than average, given that your conservative party is named the Liberal Party.
When classical liberalism is the basis for a nation's current conservative movement, it's almost inevitable that neo-liberalism will be a huge influence on their policies, no matter how hostile they are to the current party that identifies as liberal.
Likewise, abandoning social democratic and new liberal influence leaves a lot of liberal-identifying centre-left parties vulnerable to being taken over by neo-liberal ideas too.
Sadly this leaves two main options at the polls: the social reactionary neo-lib party and the socially progressive neo-lib party that overly relies on idpol to distract from how they're largely indistinguishable from their main opponents on economic matters.
