Hello, I'm Devante! I am posting here to introduce myself to the forums. Lately as I've grown older (in my 30s now) trying to understand why I always felt different. Why people would give weird looks after talking to me for a while amongst other strange social interactions that make me feel like it's a ME thing that's different. I have not been diagnosed officially but I do strongly believe I am somewhere on the spectrum. I just want to know how to connect with people, hopefully make friends, learn how to function better in the world and stop feeling so anti-social as much as I do. Going this long, this oblivious to myself and many other things has resulted in me losing a ton of things/people I care about. I just want to be better going forward and actively learn/get help and connect with others similar. Thanks again and glad to be here! :D

It may help to join special interest groups to find people who you can socialize with.

Oh yeah, totally. I hit up some spots around my town. Couple gaming lounges, martial arts gyms, anime conventions. They're great spots to hang for sure. And thank you Envirozen. That must have been such a breath of fresh air to have that knowledge after all that time. Nice to meet you too!

From time to time I've done that sort of thing and the local AS spectrum group attended a "Night at the Museum " event at the city's museum and oceanarium complex some years ago which was such fun. A few folk dressed up in Star Wars and other cosplay, light sabers and all.

I have no interest in fully growing up!!

DevanteJ64, Welcome.

You wrote, "trying to understand why I always felt different". You might almost say that you feel like you were born on the Wrong Planet.

The short answer is that humans are one of the most advanced creatures that have ever existed. This is because if you look deep inside our skull you will find a very complex structure. We have multiple brains. Some exist on the left side of the skull, and normally these are the dominant daytime brains. And some exist on the right side of our skull and are our night time support brains. But sometimes accidents happen and humans are designed with the ability to switch sides. But these brains are like the difference between night and day.

I need to see if any nights like that are around town because that does sound fun. I've always wanted to cosplay too. Just never got around to it. Nice to meet you!

Welcome to WP! I hope you find it worth frequenting.

I received my diagnosis when I was 64: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild), with a note that I also satisfied the criteria previously associated with Asperger's Syndrome. Yes, the understanding that brought was wonderful!

Have you found the online tests for Autism, for instance: AQ? They could reinforce what I gather is a self-diagnosis.

I don't want to self diagnose but I reckon that sure feels like what I'm doing. I have taken tests online after finding some good ones after looking around and I scored pretty strongly with them all. Then between my listening to professionals and hearing of so many commonalities that would actually explain a lot of things since childhood, I decided to dig more and speak to people who are more experienced/educated. Just putting things together while working to get a professional diagnosis.
