Is it just me or are the National Autistic Society useless?

I guess it depends who you get.

They told me that it was a good idea to get a NHS diagnosis as well as a private one because the NHS one would carry more weight with employers. But the private one was good enough for my bosses, and when the NHS found out I'd got a diagnosis, they cancelled the NHS referral, saying there was no point having two. My private diagnostician was surprised the NAS had said that too. She said she did autism assessments for the NHS anyway, so it was essentially the same thing wherever the client went.

I also remember reading on their website that there were a lot things they could do for a diagnosed Aspie, so I asked them what they could do for me, but they never replied.

I stopped bothering them after that.
