The state of Kentucky is trying to eliminate its state income tax. This is controversial in Kentucky. Kentucky gets lots of funding from the federal government. They are trying to compete with states like Texas Nevada and Florida and get business owners and high income earners and the rich to move to the state in higher numbers. Kentucky would have to adopt a more regressive tax structure by raising property and/ or sales taxes to make up the difference. Gas taxes may be raised. There are a lot of poor people in Kentucky who will likely have to pay higher taxes than they are now. This effort is being led by the Republicans.
