Seriously me and my boyfriend just rented an apartment, and on move in day there were things broken and the unit was not move in ready. So we tried to contact maintenance and went to the main office to, to tell them the unit we were renting wasn't ready for us to move all our stuff in. But yeah they were not helpful and then also accused us of our unit reeking of weed, and we hadnt even brought weed into the unit let alone smoked any but also it was right after my boyfriend sent in a maintenance request about the things that made the apartment not ready for us to move in. Like instead of sending someone to help, they gave no real response on when someone could come fix the stuff but were sure to send us a friendly reminder not to smoke when we hadn't even done that.

But one of the issues was a heater vent thing like the floorbase heating, the cover of it was ripped out and later on the cover was more ripped out so we thought maybe a maintnence person at least looked at it, but the office said maintnence did not have a key so then my boyfriend was wondering why the heater was ripped out even more if no one had access to the unit. So idk could be someone who didn't live there was climing into the unit somehow or if some previous person still had a key to get into our unit. So idk they offered to fix the unit and change the locks but being put off by all that and the immediate accusation of our unit reeking like weed when we hadn't even brought any weed into the he told them no thank you and we'd just like the money back. And seems they would rather send us the money back than have us start a lawsuit against them.

So what I am saying is if you get into a slum situation if you threaten them with lawsuit they may prefer to just give you your money back rather than go through that. But you have to actually threaten them or they will go after you for every penny they can unless you smack back with how they are violating housing laws and such. They count on people being too poor and desperate or too ignorant to call them out, but that is messed up, its time people do start calling them out.

I live in a slum like neighbourhood. There are bugs and mice in our buildings and the elevator in one of our buildings has been broken for 6 months and it's not getting fixed. I know of some people who have caught more than 20 mice.
