To be fair it is not just another of Trump's nonsense. May 8 is in fact a legitimate holiday celebrated in Europe as Victory Day. And the US and Russia did a great job helping Europe fighting nazi Germany. It's already a Russian holiday and it seems fair if the US joins in as well. But changing the name of the November US holiday from Veteran's Day seems a little stupid.

11 November is Remembrance Day in the rest of the English-speaking world, however the US has had Memorial Day for that purpose since the War Between the States so 11 November was given a different purpose. At least some Veterans are still alive and able to appreciate being honored on that day.

^ This is from my understanding.

Memorial Day in the US is for the fallen/service members that died in action. It's to remember the fallen. Many veterans do not see it as a celebration.

Veterans Day is used an an expression of appreciation to all that served in the military in any capacity.

I'm quite disconnected from public media and politics so I don't have considerable certainty with this, but I imagine that many people are going to be resistant to renaming/purposing Veterans Day to Victory Day.

It's a distraction from his terrible policies that we will soon start feeling the beginning of the full impact of in about a week or the summer at the latest.

We have Victoria Day in May here in Canada, when we honor the memory of Queen Victoria and it's sort of the unofficial start to summer. If Trump "buys" Canada, what's he going to call it?

I think *we* should rename Victoria Day to Not For Sale Day. At least until this insanity is over, if it ever will be.

Sometimes specific days get better names. In the old South Africa 16 December was Day of the Vow to commemorate a small group of Boers: a victory over several thousand Zulus against huge odds. Now renamed Day of Reconciliation.

Then all the caravan owners can have a "Trump & Dump"
