Hello everyone. I'm kind of new to this whole forums thing. The only forums I typically take part in are the arch Linux forums but never actually posted or commented.
Anyway, I want to make new friends with people who are also diagnosed with aspergers (not excluding others of course) not only to vent frustrations with the lack of connection I feel with everyone I know and how impossible it feels to establish new connections but also to get pointers, tips and tricks, etc to making life easier to deal with.
For example: different ways to approach a conversation, or something completely different like things to look out for while changing oil.

Approaching conversations, though, I've been exposed to that. My first recommendation is: humor.

I'm talking about low-key dry humor. But I find that if I can get a small smile from someone at the beginning of the conversation, then things generally get easier after that.

Next issue: how to learn how to get those smiles. I think that is the kind of thing you acquire from those around you. But, until you're good at it, well...British TV has some shows with dry humor. If you watch enough of them, some of it might rub off on you.

Things I do when changing my oil:
- Use latex gloves to keep my hands clean from oil
- Have a roll of paper towels and a trash bag ready
- Open the pour cap before taking out the bottom bolt plug
- Use stands instead of a jack alone
- Take oil filter off however works since it's going in the trash anyway
- Dab finger in new oil, then rub finger along oil filter seal to lube it
- Hand tighten the oil filter
- Make sure to check how much oil my car uses so I don't use too much
- When bringing the car back down, make sure stands are out from under the car

Normal people don't interpret conversations as literally as most of us on the spectrum.
They do like to talk about themselves.
They do like to know about interesting places to go or eat out.

Always check the oil plug will undo FIRST before removing the oil filter. Why? Once one has removed the oil filter, if the oil plug has ceased, one can't drive the car to a garage to get someone to help, and one dare not put the new filter on with old oil in the car. (Pointless!)
Is thinking things through that helps. Buy two pairs of axle stands and always use more than needed. NEVER EVER USE A PAIR OF SCISSORS JACKS THAT COME WITH THE CAR AS SCISSORS JACKS RELY ON HALF THE CARS WHEELS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR TO BE SAFELY ON THE GROUND SO THEY ARE SAFE TO USE. My Dad almost had a car come down on him as he decided to use a second scissors jack on the other side and I saw it just in time and was quick to act to stop the car coming down on him. Always buy a good trolley or a good bottle jack, and use nice strong axle stands. Do not rely on just the jack if you need to crawl underneath the car. Better have too much support than too little.
Recently done an oil change myself. Annoyingly the oil filter is right at the back of the engine and up! I lift using two jacks at a time. Trolley jack and the car jack which is a single arm type. I used two at a time just for safety. I was concerned as I had to lift car right at the max of what the jacks could do so I think I need a larger trolley jack.. I decided to change the oil and filter myself.
ALWAYS JACK UP ON A HARD LEVEL CONCRETE OR TARMAC SURFACE and chock any wheels left on the ground. Fortunately in this place we have a nice sized garage. (I am told I overdo safety, but I know of a lovely lady in South Wales whos husband died after a car fell on him that he was working on where she found him hours later trapped under his car. Is so sad. He loved his cars. So always double up on safety. Why I use two pairs of axle stands etc etc).

O.K. I will give you a few tips.

1. Your ability to communicate is better using written language then verbally talking. This gives you the ability to dig deeper into a discussion then most neurotypical.
2. The traits of a neurodivergent, such as yourself, generally are very different between males and females.
3. Many times we have very few friends but when we find a good friend, they are generally Neurodivergent.
4. We find living in the countryside to be much more pleasant than living in large cities.
5. Many times we become adventurers, explorers. We go where no man has gone before.

You might even find this character type in Mr. Spock in the original Star Trek episode.

Any pro tips on how/where to learn Linux, and which distro you would recommend? Not that I have much free time, but I like having a list of fun things I'd like to do one day.
I'm told Ubuntu is my best bet, but since I'm not qualified to judge, I'll ask you instead.
