Hard time getting hired as preacher because I am single
Hi yall,
I am interested in pursuing a part-time to full-time career as a evangelist in the church of Christ. I have been a preacher ever since I was a kid although I never got paid for it. However there are some some obstacles to me being a preacher. I am not married and typically no church of Christ will hire a single man as a evangelist. Also I like to drink alcohol in moderation. The churches of Christ are in a widespread minister shortage so some churches may have to be less choosy in who they hire. Typically its the smaller churches who are more lax with hiring. The bad thing is the smaller churches typically dont pay a living wage
Another reason why I may not get hired is because I like to drink alcohol in moderation. A church would fire me most likely if they saw me having a beer at a local restaurant. Also I would get fired for going to the liquor store or buying wine at the local Walmart. Also the smaller churches tend to be the most conservative. Some of the more extreme churches believe its a sin for the pastor to eat meals on a regular basis inside the parsonage. I just hope I would not get fired and kicked out of the parsonage for having breakfast in the parsonage but its a very real possibility in the more extreme small churches perhaps.I am afraid i would get fired if they find out about me drinking alcohol in the parsonage.
Also one big reason why churches like to hire married men is so they can get the preacher's wife volunteering for the church with zero pay in a 2 for 1 deal. I just dont know if I can put up with all of this just to be a evangelist. My solution is starting my church plant but thats more of a long-term deal.....I have to find members for the church plant. in order for that to work. It requires big legal bills to start a church but luckily I have the money to bankroll the legal bills...Should I just get hired as a evangelist or be a church planter.
