Just saw this awful announcement from Mihoyo. Genshin was one of a few games that I started playing because one of my siblings was really insistent about it. They said it was basically breath of the wild (incorrect) and they really wanted to play together since it had co-op mode, so I started playing, for them. That was like three or four years ago now and I've become invested in the story and lore and was really looking forward to seeing how it would end (I haven't really spent any money on it, which I guess is weird, but whatever). Guess that won't be happening now. I play on a hand-me-down PS4 Pro, one that has exactly three games on it (so, plenty of disk space there). I have a gaming laptop, but not the kind of space Genshin needs or will need by the end. I used to have it on there but it just got too big and needs like twice or three times the actual size of the update in order to update (making it easier just to uninstall and reinstall the entire game every update), and I still have other games I play that need some space too. And the laptop, unfortunately, only takes the more expensive kind of ssd so getting more space isn't feasible. I already have a terabyte as is... It's a little ironic that they cite "application size" as a reason for ending support on the PS4 when it needs more space to update on pc.
Gods, I hate this. On the bright side, I guess, I was looking through the comments on that announcement and noticed somebody already has a petition up so hopefully that does something useful. It still sucks though. PS4 is one of the platforms Genshin started on and they're just dropping it. It feels like Mihoyo's giving me the middle finger.
