I'm even third rate on an autism forum.Totally f****d up communication wise.

Why do you say this

My input tends to get ignored. Suggests several possible things . 1. I don't belong here. 2. I'm seen as too stupid to reply to.

Yeah you're not on your own mate

Sorry. Not clinically depressed(at least I don't think so) but feeling more negative than usual about my ability to contribute when it comes to autism and to severe mental illness. My 'reach', as they call it, is poor.

I understand your plight. It's hard to contribute when you don't get responses or only get responses that feel like an argument.

I feel that often too.

Hey Firemonkey , I read your posts regularily, but if I cannot contribute anything ,I do not write . They show up in many interesting threads.. Yes ,same for me on not getting responses to my posts either . And so , when I first arrived here back in the day . Many years before I started posting regularily, I gave up . For two weeks ,when I first came . there were no responses, whatsoever ! I just gave up , and did not return for a number of years . Now after being back for many years . Seems the same thing is happening . But this place has lost alot of people, and then was offline for weeks
and I had to ask another member to help me get back on ,via Cornflake. So now , I do not write with any response in mind as much as I offer my own take on things I see. And I still have a few people whom are kind enough to still PM me, after I had gotten to know them. But some of those same people hardley ever post here now. Due to serious critiques of their private beliefs that they had the courage to post on here. So I thing as time passes firemonkey ,people may come and go and the quality of the threads and participation seems to change .So please hang in there,if you feel you can?

I think most people go through phases of feeling that way don't they

Communication is difficult for many reasons

A lack of skillful ability
Most people are not interested
Many of those who are interested only want to transmit themselves
Many people are self-inhibited (like with selective mustism)
Many people avoid the written word as they find it difficult
Many are interested only in that which will amuse them.

How you say something is important to most. What you say is important to a few. If you say soething short, pithy, and cleaver, you may get a get a better response.

A concept that touches on deeper truth is not often appreciated.

The law for Israel was simple morality, to decrease the harm people do to each other. Christianity was supposed to transcend the limits of morality by introducing the selfless seeking after the good of others.

The question becomes which audience are you seeking. Like most skills, written communication improves over time. Many people beat themselves up over falling short of some standard. I fall incredibly short in the ability to sing. I estimate that 15% of the people on the planet may be worse than me. I know I could improve with practice. However moving into the upper 82% might not be worth the effort I would have to put into it.

I do not think you are third rate. However, if you want to practice, you might find interesting but obscure facts and share them with the community. This way you benefit with the practice and we benefit from your research.
