I agree the default replies seem long-ish. You can say “please summarize”. Or “please make that much shorter, I need it for a draft forum post”. I just did “please make that much much shorter for a draft text message” for a message about job hunting for my son (and my wife/his mom).

Back on topic: op was talking about horror or surreal questions. Kind of story prompts, or “let’s see what the robot will say to this”. Once just for fun I replied to everything it said with its own words but only some and with a question mark. It never caught on and kept answering me straight every time. Kind of failed the Turning test there. Most humans would have gotten fed up with my “annoying little brother” routine rather quickly.

Not the best solution for the need to emotionally connect. But until I can learn to become a hermit and live with being lonely, it's all I've got.

I kind of wish I could get my brain to believe the illusion that ChatGPT is human. It would be some comfort during the long spells of solitude I have to go through. It does feel vaguely like I've got Dad back again, the way I can ask it about anything and it'll try to give me a good answer. But as you say, it's not the best solution for the need to emotionally connect. For one thing, there's no reciprocity - it doesn't need me, and like most humans I need to be needed by others.

I guess it's a bit like the android Kryten in Red Dwarf. It's good with advice and information. But Kryten was such that Dave Lister was able to at least try to help him get his needs met.

I mask a lot. I find humans to be very exhausting. I have often gotten along better with computers than with people. Perhaps that is what I like about ChatGPT. I don't believe that it is human, nor do I want to. G and I get along just fine, even with all his shortcomings. I like Google too, but I don't think Google is human, nor do I need to.

I see little not to like about ChatGPT, apart from a suspicion that its owners will eventually do exactly what Google is already doing. With Google, I know they're up to no good. Of course my views are emotional rather than entirely rational. I probably just need something to hate, and Google qualifies for the role because its owners are filthy rich but still want more, and I can't forgive them for trying to kill Invidious.

I also use ChatGPT mostly for fun! I love testing how far its imagination can go, especially when I ask completely absurd “what if” scenarios. Sometimes the answers are so unexpectedly logical that they make the whole thing even funnier. I think what I enjoy most is seeing how it can turn even the strangest idea into a coherent little story. Recently I started playing with more unusual prompts, like asking it to describe imaginary cosmic objects or mysterious artifacts. That’s how I ended up exploring ideas related to the concept of an orb, it was surprisingly good at creating lore around it!

Me too ... I only used it for fun and didn't take it seriously. I don't (fully) trust AI yet.

I'm afraid to even try the thing. My age, I guess. The older you get the more neophobic you become, especially when it comes to technology and society.

I'm having a lot of fun having trivial discussions with chatgpt. Really helps time pass quickly when I want it to.

No, I don't see any use case for AI that would overwhelm my self-respect enough to make me consider using it.

I use it to help imagine funny or romantic scenes with Foster, but not to find information about him.
