As to your questions regarding 'revelations' there are many newer interpretations of that book to be found that look beyond any literal
interpretation.
The Dread thinkers of Jamaica including the 'times of tribulation' and the 'revelations of Jah' [Jahoviah] even the twelve tribes [a very orthodox Judeo-Christian Rastafarian group] see them differently.
I know the Bahai have newer thoughts in this area and Islam definitely sees things in a new light, really it depends on what attitude you have to historical[context only] texts, how much is it possible to understand the mind of the writer with only a modern mind to work with?
