Maine Senate candidate Platner accused of sexual assault

Of course if the accusations are true, he shouldn't be in office.

Yet the Maine race is pivotal in determining Senate control. Is it still worth it to support Platner despite all he has been accused of?

The race is generally considered a toss-up, with one poll slightly favoring Collins.

The Dems nominated a clunker of a candidate here; Collins will Platner by a wide margin IMO.

It's not surprising that an advocate of Platner, Senator Bernie Sanders,
has called for Platner to drop out of the campaign with Democrats expressing opinions about who
should replace Platner in it.

And he's gone. Good riddance, no sex pests should ever be anywhere near power.

I do fear that, like many other powerful white men, he will never face any consequences. And then on top of that, he now has reason to "turn right wing" and turn into a grifter. It's the only avenue left for him, because the right have no problem propping up sex predators.

The irony in all this is that Susan Collins is one of the very few Republicans of which I have even a slight modicum of respect.

The question is who will the Dems run now, and can that person make a case fast enough for the people of Maine? If Angus King III is that person, it would be interesting to have father and son serving in the Senate together.

not endorsing platner but the democrats are the only party that consistently shoots itself in the foot, that marginalizes its own. for it to survive as a party it must either discipline its members [bang heads together and enforce cooperation] like the GOP does by rote, or it must split apart and form separate parties.

We do need a viable social democratic party, but people are too afraid to start one because it would siphon votes from the Dems and hand the Trump-era GOP victory after victory.

If we could overcome this fear, and if the GOP were to go back to being a traditional right-of-center party, things could get done.

The latter is why the American political system is intrinsically two-party. Third parties intrinsically do not work here.


What's needed is NOT a new party. What's needed is for the left to somehow manage to popularize its views enough, and become sufficiently well-organized, that the Democrats can safely become more left-leaning.

(To that end the left needs to, among many other things, learn from its past mistakes and avoid slogans like "defund the police".)

Ironically, Collins would have no problem with Platner so long as he ranted about how much he likes beer while addressing the scandal.

There should be no place for sex parasites in politics.

Such politicians should be impeached and put in jail
where fellow inmates with jail staff can verbally give them a hard time.

All while publicly trying to cram purity culture down our throats.
