And yours? I wish there were more female evil characters from TV/novels, though.

Count Dracula...Mr.Burns from the Simpsons.....JR Ewing. Potter from Its a Wonderful Life and Gordon Gekko. Walter White. I know some of those were from movies but the movies are shown on tv. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermoine Grainger.I am not endorsing all of these characters. I just enjoy watching them.I regard every character in Harry Potter except the Dursleys as evil because the Dursleys were not magical and pretty much everyone else was. The Dursleys are my favorite characters in all of Harry Potter because I view them as the most moral in that franchise.

AWS(Steinhacker)(the frog) is the president of the upper ten, (The 1963 serial 'De Bovenbazen' is often named Toonder's masterpiece. The tale centers on ten businessmen who live in isolation at the top of a mountain. They start a bet with Bommel, which he wins and makes him part of their exclusive circle. The story unfolds as a clever commentary on economics, business monopolies and wealth distribution. The story also introduced the word "bovenbaas" into the Dutch language, which refers to the out-of-touch "bosses at the top".

If we accept magic as innately evil, doesn't that sort of leave Harry and company as anti-heroes since Voldemort and his companions are really clear-cut, simplistic villains?



You know, Wizard Hitler.

By comparison, Wizard Jesus is a pretty clear cut 'good guy', even if his tools for doing so are taboo. He doesn't want to rule regular folks, so his evil sorcery doesn't really involve us. Sorta like how Han Solo and Blade are bad guys, but who's narrative role is mostly protecting regular people from worse guys.

J.K. Rowling doesn't really seem to understand nuance so of course her 'big bad' is basically Hitler but worse and her hero is basically a more tragic Jesus (the chosen one, come to save us from Big Bad, but now he's an orphan).

One couldn't count Slippery Jim DeGriz as evil OR a psychopath, however his wife Angelina fits the bill.

I'd like to add two psychopaths to the list. One is generally considered good, or at least an anti-hero whereas the other is thought of as evil.

Light from Death Note (the TV show) thinks of himself as good and is very self-righteous which is ultimately his downfall. I find him to be a very interesting character because he's an unreliable narrator. He goes around talking about how brilliant he is and that by acting in certain ways, no one will suspect that he's not an average high schooler. However, the way he acts actually makes him more suspicious because Light seems to have a strange (and totally disconnected) idea of how an average high schooler acts. His attempts to come across as normal totally backfire.

Then there's L, a private detective working for the police. I would say that L is also a psychopath. He doesn't hesitate to do whatever needs to be done. L is quite ruthless but it benefits him to work with the police. There are a lot of comparisons made by other characters comparing the two and I agree. L is clearly meant to be a foil to Light. The show even talks about how L lacks empathy to the same degree Light does. However, the main difference between the two is that it benefits L to be on the side of good, even if his reasons to be aren't.

I just view magic as pure evil in all cases because thats what the Bible says. I view everybody in Harry Potter except the Dursleys as evil because of that reason and even then the Dursleys treated Harry badly but I think they are the least bad people in Harry Potter.

I wonder if these sorts of stories can be ruined to some extent for some portion of the audience based on their pre-existing beliefs.

But, I'll expand on that threadjack else where.

I guess I just have a thing for femme fatales and black widow types.

If we just talk about psychopaths, i like Dexter. He is a man who has a desire to murder people, but unlike other serial killers, putting it up to help the innocents, not to harm them.

If we talk about just evil people, i liked Wesker from RE (not a book or tv, but maybe will fit), but only before they completely rewrote his character in 5-th. His mastermind plans of being one step ahead of everyone were pretty cool.

It seems odd to me that you seem to think that what the Bible calls "magic" is the same thing that is called "magic" in the Harry Potter books. I mean, despite being short the seven dwarfs in the Snow White story have nothing to do with real world dwarfs.
