Someone posted T H I S   T H R E A D over on Reddit, and I though the data was appropriate for this subforum.

• Nurse: 6.903%
• Attorney/Lawyer: 5.834%
• Doctor: 5.493%

I once dated someone in sales. Had no business being with her but was horny. She wasn't even that good at it (EDIT sales).

I can't imagine how anyone could genuinely want to be in sales unless they have one or more personality disorders.

I would choose any of the professions listed by Fnord over sales.

All I'll say is Googling 40% of cops is a depressing endeavor. I agree with this list for the most part.

I understand why these professions are on this list but my vote is for Undecided. I think the personalities & economic & other circumstances of the people in those professions could vary a lot. I would take things on a case by case basis.

I'm guessing Teacher is on this list due to them tending to be majorly underpaid & bringing classwork home like grading tests & making lesson plans. I would be very wary about dating a teacher for an entirely different reason. My mom was a teacher & mostly taught pre-K. When mom was going to school English was her best subject. She was the teacher's pet & was practically valedictorian in college. Whereas I struggled majorly in lots of subjects due to dyslexia, ADD, & other related learning problems & English was one of my poorer subjects. Both my parents recognized that I had lots of problems with school but mom could not relate to it. She thought I could of done a lot better if I tried harder at home but I did not learn from studying like my mom had learned & I needed to wind down at home from being at school. Looking back on things I think they were lots of times when my mom was acting like a teacher with me when it might of been better if she was acting more like my mom instead & on the flip-side I think there were lots of times when it might of been better if my mom acted more like a teacher with me & less like my mom; if this makes sense?. I think if I had her as a teacher when going to school she probably would of been one of my favorites but me & mom fought a lot at home. My concern about dating a teacher is due to the turbulent relationship I had with my mom.

I know lots of reasons why Psychologist/Therapist might be listed here. What's interesting is that my current girlfriend has read & researched lots of psychology stuff. Cass even took a college course on psychology but that was the only class she took so she wasn't earning college credit. She slacked off & quit going after a while since it wouldn't of mattered. Cass has lots of various mental stuff & she wants to better understand herself & manage things better. She also likes reading biographies & other things by people who have various mental stuff. Cass has seen a few different therapists at different points.

I've researched mental stuff a bit as well to figure myself & things out. I saw a therapist briefly like 15/20 years ago when I was dealing with a bad depression that was somewhat psychotic. I also saw a psychiatrist for about five years then. I felt like the professionals did not really understand me & had my causes & effects mixed-up. Some of that was probably my own fault for being very guarded with them & keeping certain things private. I've had much better luck joining this forum & posting about things aLOT. I researched psychiatry meds a bit as well & asked my general practitioner docs to prescribe certain ones. I understand myself alot better than the professionals do. My own judgement about my psych meds tends to be pretty good usually but I have lots of bad experiences during that five year stretch that I've tried to analyze & learn from.

Me & Cass seem to understand each other a lot better than anyone else does. Supporting each other can be very hit & miss sometimes though & during bad points we can kind of trigger each other. What works/helps me may not work/help Cass & vice-versa. I need to remember to follow my own advice for her more which is focus on taking care of myself more so I can better support Cass when she's doing bad. My med ideas for Cass can be very hit & miss as well but overall probably slightly better than her psychiatrist's ideas. Cass is the patient, not me so I don't want to overstep too much by suggesting things during her appointments but I do suggest some.

I would be very wary about dating a psychologist/therapist type who does not have a major history of their own mental health struggles.

Unless a person works in some extreme business like the tobacco industry, private military contractor, arms dealing or as a hitman I see no reason to judge them beforehand. What kind of person would say: "I'd never date a teacher or a doctor!" :?

^I agree with the not judging part, especially since I'm considered by many to be a bum/loser due to having long-term disabilities & was very lucky to get federal minimum-wage jobs when I was employed. There is a stereotype that women are attracted to doctors due to doctors tending to earn decent money, being more educated, & perceived as being more caring. I wonder why nurse is a separate job on this list than doctor. I'm guessing it's because nurses are considered to be on a lower level than doctors are?. There's lots of exceptions with all this though. A bit of the women on my mom's extended side of the family are nurses or teachers(nurses are some of my cousins & their adult kids as well as my mom's cousin; teachers are my mom, my aunt, one of my cousins, & one of my cousins married a teacher) & they didn't seem to have any trouble getting romantic partners & are in long-term relationships. There may be a gender bias since they are all from & still living in the deep south(Louisiana & Texas) which tends to care about conservative gender expectations. I guess my concern about dating someone working as nurse or teacher or doctor is partly due to me always being an outsider with everyone in my own family but to be fair I'm an outsider with everyone except my girlfriend. Being introverted, socially awkward, & not doing well in school probably contributed to me wanting a partner I could relate to when I was single. That would of made me wary about dating someone who's job requires lots of college & being very social. But I would of considered potential partners on a case by case basis & tried not to be too judgey. What's really important is the way my partner acts towards me & others.

Most of them are practically domestic terrorists.
