Why do I go all quiet sometimes at home and at work?

Whenever I'm not happy about something, I seem to want to go all quiet and not say anything unless someone asks me and it's as though I'm being quiet so that people do notice and wonder what's wrong.

Also the thing is people like my parents tell me it makes people uncomfortable, creates a negative atmosphere and so on but I'm not intending it to be.

We as autistics tend to be quiet for a multitude of reasons. You could be more socially reserved, you could be experiencing a bit of a shutdown or temporary muteness for a bit. The reasons vary from individual to individual.

Yeah it's like I want to go mute when I'm not happy or annoyed unless someone wonders what's wrong but sometimes I'll respond "I'm alright" or whatever and hesitant to say anything else because I feel people at home have heard me a number of times discussing issues we've been over before and won't talk about it anymore.

I remember someone at school who was autistic like me who for some was upset about something and spent I think a lot of the day not really speaking whatsoever. That's longer than I would.
