Considering yeeting the uterus

Ahoy there!

So I've had a...complicated relationship with my uterus. I don't hate it or anything, mostly just hate the debilitating cramping that leaves me bedridden and the bleeding that is very expensive to manage with menstrual products. I discussed this issue with my gynecologist (funny enough, a male gynecologist, but he is very well regarded in the field and actually delightful to work with) and he suggested getting a full hysterectomy, leaving just the ovaries.

I wanted to get some insight from anyone here at the moment who has undergone this operation: I'm definitely getting it, but what can I come to expect from this medical procedure? How long was the downtime? Do you have any advice?

I have many friends and family who are so glad they did that. Most were in their 40s and 50s. A coworker had one late last year and a family member did earlier this year. Both were laparoscopic! They seemed to have a fairly short downtime - at least from my perspective - there could have been a longer recovery period behind the scenes.

The only downside I have seen is that a couple of my friends who had procedures 10-20 years (full incisions of course) had surrounding organs collapse into the uterine space in their 60s or 70s (and "baskets" were inserted) --- hopefully the procedure is better now and has less long-term side effects.
