Hello, my name is Brian. I am 39, I am from West Virginia. My biggest goal in life is to get into a relationship. I have put all my mental energy into this goal throughout my life. I go to therapy once a week. The dynamic usually works like this I tell my therapist my depression and sadness is related to my belief that I can never be in a romantic relationship due to my autism, and the severe stress and anxiety I have suffered with my whole life.
He tries to tell me that someone out there would still like a relationship with me. When I was younger, I tried very hard to find a girlfriend in person. It never happened for me
and due to my inability to get into a romantic relationship I had a severe nervous breakdown when I was 36.
Now I live at home with my parents. And struggle with a great deal of things. I have a hard time keeping my confidence up that I could ever be in a relationship. Basically the agreement I have with myself and my therapist is that I will not try to get a girlfriend in real life due to the limitations in my life. But I will try online. It is just extremely difficult when people usually tell me I am not a person anyone would want to date.
It would be a great deal of help to my confidence level if occasionally people online had more positive words of advice and not only negative words of advice on the issue that means the most to me in the world.
