I've been out of town again, this time browsing a bit on Yahoo. I made an entry with one of my favorite artists names in there (was looking for a particular dj set) and the 7th search result, first page of all things, was a link to Wrongplanet.net and one of my posts.

Is there some way that we can disable the major search engines from grabbing onto our posts in here? I like the fact that Wrongplanet can be found but not by people not even looking for something related to AS and then see it mentioned in relation to Aspergers.

I'm pretty sure it can be done, but not selectively like that. If we want people to be able to search for AS-related information on WP, they're going to be able to search for the rest of it as well.

I've been trying to keep terms out of my posts that I think could potentially be used by someone from the "real world" trying to determine my online identity.

Search engines can be 'stopped' at varying levels. The site can restrict access to unanimous users and it can 'tell' search engines on a per-page basis whether a page may be index or cached.

true, but one would have to individually look through each thread to see if it should be indexed.

BTW Alex, not trying to cause you any grief or anything with this - it just spooked me a little seeing that right up on front page of a long listed search like that.

And Gwenevyn, that's probably the hard part about having somewhat esoteric music tastes, anything I post in the 'What are you listening to this very second' kinds of threads can definitely point some things out. I think the one really stupid thing I have done is used the same name here that I do on an un-AS related site (music oriented), I do once in a great while post my productions for critique in the production area but I'm a rare visiter, rare poster, don't think it'll really mean a whole lot (though I could imagine trashing my old account and coming up with a new name over there could help me sleep a little easier if this stuff keeps popping up).
