Asp-Z, I know I'm kind of sticking my nose into something that doesn't involve me at all, but this is a public forum, and the conversation is being held where the whole world can read it so.....

It's not as if I'm eaves dropping.

BUT, I'm not about to jump in and speak my mind since I do view the most recent posts in this thread as a conversation I'm not really a part of. AND I'm well aware that advice not asked for is usually not well received.

BUT, you have asked a question. You asked it presumably only of Moog (or possibly other moderators posting here). So rather than offering an answer outright, I will as a question in return because it seems to me you may actually be genuinely seeking answers. So here's the question:

Are you interested in a third hand opinion from an objective viewpoint?

I have no idea what particular exchanges you guys are discussing here. I have some experience though, with you, all of it fairly decent, but have seen certain things you have done that could lead to problems. If you're interested, I'd be happy to share. I can't promise you you won't be offended, but I can promise I will do my best not to. That's about all I can promise.

I don't pretend to KNOW anything. I don't pretend what I have to say is right. All I'm offering is a third perspective, from another average Joe user.

I must admit, I never actually "READ" the rules, Got to 4, Then got confused. I post here, Like I would on Railpage, Following Railpages rules.

I always said there's some extreme feminism that goes on in here that clouds people's judgements in this forum. I'm all for respecting women's right, but this so-called "sexism" thingy is an imaginary problem that people are making a big deal out of.

I'm sure hyperlexian is doing a good job as a mod, but I think she needs to be more objective. The "blonde girl" jokes are not even sexist jokes. They're not jokes about women in particular. They're just jokes to make everyone (including blonde girls) have a chuckle.

Feel free to make jokes about Lebanese men all you want. I definitely won't be offended, and I won't even interpret it as sexist. And if it's really funny, I'd definitely laugh along.

I actually despise drama, but I don't like standing by not saying something I strongly believe in. My problem is I have a strong sense of justice and fairness which is what you mistake for "love for drama", and that has often put me at odds with some of the people around here.

no, any time there is some kind of drama, you make sure to get in the middle of it. at times you even decide to stir it up. you're silly.

I won't say I'm not silly, but anyone who wants to point out something he feels he needs to point out will inevitably be in a dramatic situation whether he likes it or not. I felt I needed to say something here, and you interpreted it as drama simply because I chose to do something you don't wish for me to do and not because I'm trying to cause an unnecessary scene here for the sake of drama and/or attention.

But seriously, don't you think it was a tiny bit too harsh deleting those jokes on account of them being interpreted by you as "sexist"? Replace "blonde girl" with "Lebanese men" or "Italian men" or any kind of men. Would you honestly feel the same? Is the joke really offensive because it has offensive content claiming that women are inferior to men and that women are all whores ... or simply because it has "girl" or "woman" in it?

Is it a good idea to moderate posts based on personal feeling rather than on objective motive to keep the forum community intact and void of actual insults and attacks? Allow some space for men and women to joke around (including posting these jokes).

i kind of think that you ARE doing that - creating and/or perpetuating drama. i do not know why you continue with this pattern. perhaps it could be for attention, or more likely to cast aspersions on the site (including, as usual, either alex or the moderators in your criticisms) for your own agenda. only you are really aware of why you do it, but it's a bad habit. you might want to consider why you feel it is so important to be so unpleasant on a site that you clearly enjoy.

i would have thought that after it didn't go so well on your own site that you would have gained some empathy for what this job is like, but i guess not.

Again, you're trying to make it a war between me and the moderator staff. Didn't you see me agree earlier with Spongy on what he said in response to sinsboldly? Does this really look like a me vs. the mods?

Having empathy doesn't mean staying silent and not saying a word if I see something wrong in the moderating aspect of this forum. In fact, it's because I have empathy for what you guys have to go through that I was trying my best to be as gentle and objective in my criticism as I could. But you misconstrued it as me asking for drama. I seriously want to know how those jokes could've been sexist.

Also, my forum not working out had nothing to do with anything regarding any moderation issues there.

i think you would probably see what i have perceived if you go back through your own posts. most of them are still public so you can sift through and get a good idea if you do that. your established pattern of creating and perpetuating drama is visible in your posting history. it's a good exercise to go through otehr poeple's posts too, so you can get an idea for how your posts are different.

i do not see objectivity in your criticisms, nor did i see objectivity on your own site. funny how each person thinks they are more objective than other people, but it generally isn't the case. i have fellow moderators (and alex) "keeping me honest", so i am not worried about my objectivity here.

As I already addressed this bit just a couple posts ago, I see no need to repeat. People who don't want to listen won't listen.



Yes, because I used to misconstrue certain jokes as sexist jokes on my forum and remove them accordingly, right? My forum was an epitome of free speech and allowed even women to challenge the admin there. It's a bit of a difference between my forum and, let's say, the women's subforum here.

And why on earth would you want anyone to "keep you honest" (whatever that's supposed to mean exactly)? I'm sure you're an honest person yourself by your own nature. You don't need anyone to "keep you honest". The issue is really with allowing personal feelings to control one's own way of moderating. The other mods have (by their own admission) given you freedom to moderate on that basis, and alex has shown evidence he doesn't focus much on the moderation aspect of this forum, so ... yeah.

But hey, I'm just giving a constructive criticism. You're always free to reject it as a moderator of this forum. Just don't condemn me for it.

Look, I'd hate to be one to jump into this what with where it's gone and all to date, and I really do feel uncomfortable being one to critique the mods jobs here, but something is happening here I even I feel the need to speak up about. Sadly, while all of this drama has been going on here in this thread, the mod attention thread has been virtually ignored for two straight days.

Sorry, but this needs to be said. That should not be happening. I'm not bringing this up only because it's my own post there. I would have brought it up had it been anyone else's sitting there and I had noticed. The only reason I have noticed is because it is mine and I have been checking. I'm not exactly heart broken about it, and the issue the post is about has already been handled mostly by myself and another user involved, which is fine with me, but that thread is supposed to be serving a purpose. Right now, it isn't doing so, and I don't think I really need to speculate as to why it isn't. All one has to do is compare that thread to this one and the reason is pretty clear. I'm not going to say why, because I think it doesn't need to be explained. It's really quite obvious why it's happening.

Two days and not even a quick either, "Can you handle this on your own," or "Oh good, so you are dealing with it." For all intents and purposes, it looks as if nobody has even looked at the thread. I thought it may have been because everyone was busy with the upcoming holidays, but then I come here and...

I understand you guys are trying to work some things out here, but there's a lot of other forums here that need to be looked at. This here looks to me as if it's gotten just a bit to personal and distracting from matters that should be getting addressed.

Nothing personal and no intent to put anyone on the spot, but I really felt the need to speak up in this case. Who is watching the kids while this is going on?
