Well, technically speaking, I haven't made any racist statements in that thread. I simply asked about the policy. In fact, in the original post I was very careful to phrase it in such a way that even avoided mentioning that I was the one sending the email. But then when one of the responders acted like there would be MEDIA PRESSURE involved, I had to clarify the situation by explaining that I am not talking about celebrity or anything like that; that was the first time I mentioned that the person in question was myself.

i think it was pretty obvious that it was you who was going to send that email, considering that you've made it clear in the past that you have some racist and anti-semitic beliefs.

it is not appropriate to ask for help to make any sort of racist or anti-semitic attacks (i.e. that email in question) on the WP forum. it is frankly quite offensive. i am sure there are racist and anti-semitic forums where you could obtain that assistance.

fraac, he can't start a new account without alex's permission, since it was alex that took his PM rights away.

Actually, it was sinsboldly who took away my PM rights, not Alex. The way I know it is that she confronted me by PM. A second later I responded to her PM -- which means my PM rights were still there. Then a second later she responded. And then I couldn't respond back -- so they were taken away within the above mentioned few seconds. This makes it obvious that sinsboldly was the one who took them away.

As another proof, if you go to the THIRD PAGE of this post, and look at the BOLDED part of lau's reply,

lau wrote:
He refused, so rather than just banning him, either myself or sinsboldly blocked his PM rights.

he makes it clear that the one who took them away was either lau or sinsboldly. Now, from my point of view it was sinsboldly. But even if I was wrong and it is lau, lau is still not Alex. So you are not correct in saying Alex took them away.

that was back when the moderators had administrator privileges. we don't have that power anymore. so alex is the only one who can change it, and i doubt he is reading this thread. feel free to keep talking about it, but it's not going to get you anywhere, unfortunately.

If Alex is unreachable he can fairly start a new account. This isn't a Kafka story.

You've already made it clear that being a moderator is irrelevant in this matter. If a rule says that once a moderator has removed his PM ability then only the owner, who is unreachable, can restore it, that leaves him with no recourse, which is obviously the kind of unjust system nobody could support, and certainly not one intended by design. Under these circumstances he can reasonably create a new account until Alex can find the time to reply.

We have one solution to the immediate issue that ressurected this thread, and that is for moderators to create special email accounts to use for WP business and to carry those in their sigs. This was done for a while but fell by the wayside due to moderator turnover. The practice needs to be re-instilled and I can point the moderators to the full discussion of why it is desired if need be.

Roman, I think you have to accept that you will have to reach Alex or live with the situation as it is. I understand that is frustrating to have a moderator not realize you couldn't respond, but it still is what it is.

i have a moderator email account, but i decided against putting it in my signature because the chance of it being necessary to a member who is on the forum already is so rare. i sometimes send an email to members who have been banned, so that they have an external contact address, but active members who are on the forum already wouldn't really need an email address to contact me in very many scenarios.

I think this was suggested a while ago but you can always create a new email account and check it weekly or daily for email from members here, just put that email in your sig saying you don't have PM rights so you are unable to respond to their PMs here if they send you one. Email you instead than PM. I don't see why that wouldn't help.

there is only one member who does not have PM rights. i wouldn't add an email account to my signature for one member.

One of the big reasons for moderators to have published email is that sometimes non-members, formerly banned members, or members unable to log in need to reach a moderator. Yes, it is rare, but it needs to be somewhere, because those folks get desperate.

Currently the "how to get attention" post sends people to Tinky, who isn't currently active. That should be updated.

non-members can create an account, i can't think of a reason for a banned member to contact a moderator (please fill me in on any reasons you can think of as i am drawing a blank), and members unable to log in have a password reset option.

the moderator attention thread lists all of the moderators, and if members click our names a PM opens up. has Tinky mentioned having a problem with members contacting her?

also, do you think that maybe these are things that are better discussed in the moderator forum since you still have access?
