"keeping me honest" means that moderators here do not make unilateral decisions in a vacuum. instead, they support and challenge each other when necessary. it's cute how you are trying to twist that into a negative.

yeah, i saw your forum and what the environment was like. it didn't seem like a very pleasant place to be, which might have been one reason that not very many people joined. i think it could have done with firmer moderation that took care of its members.

MrXxx, that is totally fair - the thread dropped off my notifications, and i am sorry to have missed it. if you ever see this happen again when you need a response, a PM is cool too.

Mod Hat On (moderate several and Run 2)

hyperlexian, Please stop arguing with the members, Warn him for arguing with a Moderator, Or if its really necessary, Ban him. Doesnt worry me, Unless I need to read through 10 posts that are arguing between staff and another member to find out if my reply had actually been quoted. It gets annoying.

Mod Hat Off

Sorry... But I had to say it.

The situation there is fairly okay now, but for the fact that the other user involved had agreed to have her posts removed, as did I. I've already nuked my own relevant posts, but haven't been able to get hold of her to reciprocate. She's in agreement. I don't mean to belabor the issue here, but...

Well, the issue did seem relevant to the overall topic here.

Frankly, and I mean no offense by this, but if I were administering a forum, which I have done in the past, and saw a thread going the way this one is, the first thing that would come to my mind is "Too involved and distracted."

Overall I think you guys do the best you can, and a pretty good job. You are no less human than the rest of us. I'm just pointing out how this looks from a third, and I hope objective perspective. Granted, I don't know what I don't know (goings on behind the scenes), and that's a lot. That much I do know.

Not everyone does though. If that had been someone else's post, and a more serious matter...

I don't think I need to say any more.

Ban people over a disagreement? Sounds quite harsh and would count as an abuse of moderator powers.

It is still Arguing with the heirachy of a forum, and does indeed count as a temp ban.

Did they challenge you in this case that were discussing?

You still haven't explained how it could've been interpreted as a sexist joke. Sexism must involve negative feelings towards a certain sex based on the sex itself. Otherwise, it's just teasing.

Or it must've been an Aspie thing. Even other forums set up around the same time as mine don't have that many members and they're even stricter than this forum.

In fact, some members in the forum I set up (including female members) were upset and wanted the forum to stay online when I announced that I wanted to take it down due to lack of activity and interest.

bcousins: no. we don't really want to discourage people from having healthy discussion here. if i was banning people for disagreements then i'd probably have to ban you for criticising me. ;) WP has a long history of dialogue between the members and the moderators, so i would not want that to stop. usually it dies down after people have had their say.

MrXxx, i probably spend about 8 hours of the day on the site doing a signfiicant amount of work (as well as less than half of that time spent posting as a member). unpaid. you can think what you want about me spending 20 minutes posting in this thread, but the fact is that i spend a huge chunk of time moderating. the moderators missed one post on the moderator attention thread for 2 days, which generally does not happen. i think you need to put that into perspective.

Perspective ^^^^

Perhaps you missed that? Anyway, 'nuff said from me. I'm ducking out for now. Peace. :D

yeah, i saw your disclaimer. i just thought you should know that it's not like i breeze in here for a few minutes a day and ignore my moderator duties. i put a lot into the site because i honestly do care. i missed something and i am sorry for that, but i try not to make it a habit. usually we have moderator pileups in the moderator attention thread!! !!

I didn't think you did, and that definitely wasn't the picture I was trying to paint, other than that is what it can look like, not to me, but to other users. I know you guys don't get paid, and I know it's a thankless job for the most part.

Anyway, we're cool. I'm done. (I know I said that already, but I really am this time. Computer OFF!) :P

You haven't contributed much posts here and you're demanding a mod that I get banned because you find me having a discussion with hyperlexian annoying? Really?

Post as many posts as I've contributed to this forum and then come back and do your silly talk.

It came across as an argument.

Now, If you really want to do the "insult the newer user because I've posted more" Dance, Then Go for it, By all means.

If anyone wants me, I'll be at RailPage

Please show me where I insulted you in any way.

If anything, you're the one having a go at me.

hyperlexian is close to doing that kind of thing anyway, don't encourage her

The WP sociopath (that really is a cool title ) agrees with MCalavera, for what it's worth (which I assume isn't much). You have to be OBJECTIVE when making moderating decisions.

I know Im supposed to be on a break but I just cant stand bs like this happening and its the main reason I need a break so Im going to try to work this out one last time

You also have to be OBJECTIVE when criticizing a mod´s work and you seem to criticize anything that involves you without taking into account that those actions were taken because of the rules(everytime you´ve asked we´ve provided a rule that backed up whatever mod´s action and you kept discussing when it was clear that the mods did what they had to do).

If you want the rules to be changed/more specific I completely understand that and you can try to approach alex about it because we arent allowed to change then and right now we have to work with what we have.

Considering that what we have doesnt take into account the tone of a post and your post did break that rule(wether it was done seriously or in a jest) objectively speaking she did the right thing(remove it and encourage you to keep discussing with her in a manner that didnt break any rules) wether you personally agree with her actions or not shouldnt be taken into account in an objective judgement

Just so we are clear Ive discussed hyper/Moog/alex/anyone else´s actions with them at the time when I thought that they were being biased but this time there are rules that she decided to implement and wether those rules are usuallly overlooked by other mods or not isnt a reason for criticizing her because she did the right thing.
