The playable "undead" race is actually the Forsaken. Which is different than the undead that were in WC3, these are not controlled by external forces, rather they are free willed and lead by Jaina Proudmore.

If every class was an equal match, then dueling wouldnt be much fun would it? The way they've tried to set it up is something like Warlock>Mage, Mage>Shaman, Shaman>Warlock. Every class has other classes to counter it, except rogues, they just seem to own everyone.

Maybe it does answer these questions and you just havent seen them yet? I've put over 60 days of gameplay into my main and havent come close to completing all of the quests, there's even a few instances I havent stepped foot in. Plus there's a whole series of books that go along wiht these games, which might answer these questions.
