If I have to use the cooker, I have a ritual that whenever I finish with it I move my hand over each dial saying "off - off - off - off (etc.)" which I've conditioned myself to do whenever I take any food off it/out of the oven. I usually stay in the kitchen for the whole time that something is cooking, reading a book or watching the birds or whatever.

I can think of 2 things.

- A4 paper on the door to your bedroom with "STOVE" on it as a reminder.

- Let the kitchen light be turned on constantly and before you go to bed you turn off the lights and then you will notice the stove.
(This would work for me since I always turn off all the lights before I go to sleep, pitch black is your friend.)

It happens. Timers are great (my oven won't even switch on unless the timer's set), but as long as you have a working smoke alarm and have an exit if there was a fire, you should be ok.
