Vaginal canals are supposed to tilt backwards? That's what we were taught in school.
To get it in you have to put it straight then tilt it backwards.

That's how I get mine in, also, try applicator tampons. I don't even use the normal kind. I've only been using them for about 6 or 7 years and it just takes practice. You shouldn't feel it when it's in.

The real problem I think is the tension. You find sometimes even if you try to relax, you still have trouble getting it in the first bit. If I push for a little bit it eventually pops through the tension and slides in.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, I was told that when I was trying to be fitted for a diaphragm. I couldn't use one because a tight suction seal could not be created because of the tilt from what I understood them to tell me.

tilted cervix maybe? I have one- it makes a lot of things more difficult and unpleasant, like when they kept trying to heck for dilation when I was in labor. I kicked a doctor and that was the last time they did that before the c section.

Must be, I was dilated only 4 after 12 hours of labor and had a c-section too.

One thing that helped me when I first used tampons was to put one foot up on the toilet. That position made it much easier to insert a tampon.

Also, if it hurts, there is another possibility. I don't know if you are sexually active, but if your hymen is intact, that could be part of your problem. Most women have a hole in the hymen through which they can insert a tampon, even if their hymen is still intact. However, some women don't, or have a very small hole. Two women I know had this problem; both were told that it would be practically impossible for them to have sex. There is a very simple out-patient procedure to take care of this condition (not sure of the details, but my friend who had it done in high-school was back on the volleyball court two days later). If you really cannot insert a tampon, talk to a gynecologist. She might be able to help you!

I hate them too......scary things.

Never used them once in 36 years. First time I tried at 17, I passed out.

Take care,

Mics

You should try pointing them towards your backbone, that's what helped me. I don't use tampons anymore, they sort of freak me out. I hate the feeling of pulling them out when they're not ready, it feels like some of the tampon is tearing off and getting stuck in there.

I use menstrual cups now, they're wonderful. :)

I tried to insert a menstrual cup once. It was rubber, and bell-shaped, and you had to fold it to insert it. It was extremely painful to insert or remove, and I threw it out after my one effort.

It really hurt me the first few times too. I had a minor freak out in the bathroom because I couldn't get the darn thing out. Truthfully it really didn't get pain-free until I started having sex. But there are lots of techniques that they don't tell you on the instruction packet that make it easier to get out. I love mine now that I've gotten used to it.

Well, if there's nothing wrong, when you shortly reach the point where it kind of feels like it won't fit, you should push it past that point, and it should fit. Otherwise, it might be a problem that was mentioned by someone else here before.

I'm sure it usually tilts a bit backward.

Yeah, got that cleared up, it's a tilted cervix or something.
