All of those things, yes. Slowing it down is greatly appreciated. Yours tend not to get to me as much as some other people's do, since they're generally rhythmic and not too fast. Some people have avatars which just seem terribly thoughtless and inconsiderate to me. This is a site for autistic people, most of us have sensory issues. Really, it seems obvious to me that animated avatars could pose problems, but maybe that's a theory of mind problem on my part.

This topic has flashed up before. The general consensus was if an avatar is offensive enough to raise complaints then the user will be asked to voluntarily remove it. I have received numerous compliments, never anything negative.

The only complaint about Any avatar I have ever used was that I had changed their favorite one.
I actually got a complaint once because I was using one that was not animated.
It was by far offensive, I have always used animated ones since day 1.
Except for that one day - which is at the bottom of this post.

I try my best to keep the size limited as possible as well as the color intensity.
Timing is the one that really hurts me the most, again, it's minimal.
Being thoughtless or inconsiderate does not apply.

I didn't mean to say that you seem thoughtless and inconsiderate. Your avatars are okay and I have no reason to think you are either of those things. But some people's avatars do produce the "oh god ow my brain quick hit escape" response. I don't complain about them, though, because I assume I am of the minority opinion and I do have the escape key available to me.

I have problems with some animated avatars. Can't say I've ever had a problem with DaWalkers though. There was one recently by someone who had hypnotoad as their avatar and I found that so disturbing I skipped passed their posts and didn't read them - just to get their avatar off screen.

I absolutely detested the one that turned into itself as it walked. I would stare at it fascinated for . . . well, for way too long, totally enthralled that the flow never changed and the sort of Goofy like character would never cease rolling along unless I tore myself away. (sigh)

But I did like the skeleton one!

Wrong Planet doesn't allow you to host your avatar off-site, though.

Oh god, I know. Delirium's, maybe? I don't know, but I couldn't read her posts because her avatar upset me so much. And when I say "upset," I don't mean in an emotional way. I mean it made it feel like something in my brain hurt. Though that did, in turn, lead to some distress. But DaWalker's are all right. I'm growing to like the elephant, though he seems a bit swift for a pachyderm.

I've noticed. I figure it's only a matter of time before it turns into something less pleasant. :P

when you go to the page where you choose your avatar, there's an option for a url of an off-site avatar.

Oh, and I'm having trouble changing my sigline. It's telling me "403 forbidden"

That's true, but all that really does is upload the offsite link to WrongPlanet's server.

Maybe for the 403 forbidden error, you may need to clear away your cookies and try again.

I'm sorry for reviving this topic, but I was going to link to an off-site avatar that chooses from a set of images at random when I noticed this.

I guess my question is this: Why? (Or did I answer my own question?)

As long as said URL remains unchanged while the image meets the size limitation's there should be no problems.
