u :D I would prefer something you found in the woods....a rock, piece of bark witha cool pattern, hunk of moss I can transplant in apt. and pet at will(dont tear up the woods...just a little piece is fine)or something from a thriftstore/garage sale rather then the sterile mall...I like things with a little soul and history(dumpster dived is great but pleaase wash off any dumpster juice)a nice photo, poem, home made CD,art, would also be great....for this forum, I would settle for a cute picture of an animal...something very fuzzy!! :D

Well, it didn't start that way.

I thought the type of flower was a humorous gender comment, but being that it was MrMark's post I doubt that is the case at all.

I can remember flying down the hiway on a quick trip to see my soon-to-be wife. I was in such a hurry to get there and we hadn't seen each other in such a long time (working - a couple of weeks) I didn't even think to get her a gift. Of course a gift was not necessary, but I like to make her smile. I got her a 1 lb chocolate bar at the drive-in grocery near her house and on a romantic whim grabbed one of those "single red roses" on display at the counter.

She was brought to tears twice by that damn rose. Once because, I was the first one to ever give her a single red rose and again because the damn thing disintegrated when she opened it. I felt like a total heel, buying a cheap-A55ED counter rose but no need, she was happy and loved the chocolate bar. I found out a couple of years ago that she had kept those petals all these years. The rose itself had no meaning, but the thought behind it was not lost. What a woman! I'm the luckiest man on the forum.

I don't think of flowers as a girly thing - I gave them to a guy once. He thought it was cool. It wasn't like a bouquet or anything - just a wildflower thing. It depends on the person though. I feel intimidated by formal bouquets but like flowers you can plant.

I gave a guy a Venus Flytrap, and instead of him thinking it was a cool and interesting plant, he was offended.

For valentines day the year my husband and I got together, I had flowers delivered to the office where he was consulting - in Sweden. (I live in the US) I had to conspire with his boss to do it but it worked. He loved it.

I think it is ok (apart from the complete waste of money side of things) to give a bloke flowers. If I was doing it, I'd pick flowers that were more blokey looking like bansia (what I posted in the no words thread), and protea and kangaroo paw. Here these flowers are farmed for the flower industry so we don't have to feel guilty about picking wildflowers (illegal in some parts of Australia).

Aren't they just. :) And sadly, they're only from Google - my garden remains relatively flowerless at the moment. I have some baby plants, though, which will hopefully flower when they're bigger. :)

A gift that's bought for a Woman should match her Interests and her Personality.
