Scratching head, still trying to figure out who is joking and who is not? If nothing else, evidence that we are all on the spectrum. 
To the Op, I thought you were kidding. I'm still not 100% sure everyone is not joking around, but if you are truly sad, I hope my jokes weren't offensive to you.
I guess it was hard to believe you would see the zero as a literal representation of reality, but I've done similar things in other contexts; makes me wonder now if there are others that might think there are zero people on the site, now too, if they just happened to glance at it and notice, after not paying it much attention in the past. particularly if they are fairly new members?

No I'm not a mod. I thought you were making a joke about there being zero people online, because I had a preconceived notion that everyone understood that the counter for people visiting the site was not working.
Apparently my preconceived notion was wrong. That was an attempt at an apology if you thought my attempt at humor was at your expense. I hope you feel better.
And, if you understood the counter was broke and seeing the zero still amplified your feelings of loneliness; just didn't understand you meant it seriously.

Guess I used the unrecognisable form of sad faces - I wasn't being funny guys - I was feeling very emotional last night and yes the online now: 0 thing (though I assumed it was probably a technical error) added to my lonliness.
Sorry if in my upset - I upset others - but I came in search of comfort - and found none
Guess I'll be more careful about which forum to post in next time - thanks for teaching me the hard way!

Sometimes we end up with everyone talking at crossed purposes on WP. Please accept my apologies for causing you aggravation yesterday by moving your thread.
Regarding why it is showing zero my guess is that Alex (the site owner) has temporarily disabled some of the none-essential functionality of the site to help speed it up.
