My Bedroom is next to the bathroom that's downstairs, so I keep the Bathroom Light on and turn off the rest of the Lights, downstairs. I can sleep better, when I can see a bit of Light shining on my belongnings.

I'm lucky that I'm around, now and that it's not the 18th or 19th Century. I'd never be able to sleep in complete Darkness.

Indeed, it is good that we are alive nowadays, when it is not pitch black (not even a decent street lamp outside) at night. You would have just the light of the moon and possibly the stars (if it is not cloudy), as leaving an oil lamp on at night would both be dangerous and expensive.
