LOL. Of course you already have some of the accent with your native one (Bearss), thanks to all those Nordic immigrants 150 years ago, not as much as Minnesota famously but still an influence.

Re: 'conlanging', what's more interesting than bastardized versions of existing languages meant to be world second languages (which is what Esperanto is, an artificial one made of Romance languages) are the ones that are entirely new but have a grammar like real ones. The Klingon and Vulcan languages that James 'Scotty' Doohan created for the 'Star Trek' movies and elaborated on by the fans (in the case of Klingon) are like that.

Of course what happened was thanks to the two-part process of the British Empire, then American dominance, we don't need Esperanto to talk to people around the world - English is the world language.

Yep - its great to be a member of a warmongering nation that imposed its language on everyone else so we don't have to learn theirs. Especially when you've absolutely no language-learning ability at all like me.....

Latin (Classical and Medieval), Greek (Classical), German, French, Anglo-Saxon, Middle English. Dabbled in Esperanto, Gothic and Old Irish. I am interested in the development of Proto-Indoeuropean into its various language families.

Don't get me started on writing systems...

I tried to learn Loglan once.

English is my first language.

But im learning Mandirin, Cantonese and french. But i suck at all of em. About to learn japanese as well.

I have always struggled with learning other languages mainly because I am very much a 'why' person. Unless I know why a particular rule (such as grammar) is in place I can't seem to process the information. It isn't enough for to know that it just is I need to know why.

Same here. I tried learning French once and failed miserably.

That's because the French can't spell a single word without adding at least 3 silent vowels at the end and one silent consonant in the middle just for the hell of it. That's why I vastly prefer German.

English is my first language, but I can also get by in French. But its been a long time since I have needed to use French, so I guess my knowledge of it is getting rather rusty!
I also have a smattering of Romanian...I spent a short time in Romania and was married there (to a Romanian) but the marriage was short-lived. (My grandfather was Romanian) And this too was a long time ago so I have forgotten much of what I knew.
I wish I did have a talent for learning languages ...I would love to speak more!
What particularly interests me though, although I am no expert, is learning about the history and origins of languages, in particular the Indo-European family; and the way that they are interrelated.
