Yeah, it looks like she's gotten a lot of 'mileage' out of the story that way. I wonder if her motivation was just to get another article published, or if she actually hates autism and wants to promote a connection with violence.

I don't think it's the latter, even though she's using some of the common tropes used to talk about autism.

Part of my reaction to the story League_Girl linked is that it happened later in the same year that this happened:

http://dsq-sds.org/article/view/1065/1254

It was an autism awareness ad campaign that featured "autism" as a kidnapper leaving ransom notes for the children autism abducted. I was involved in disability activism at the time, which is why both crossed my radar. Well, that and it was my "I am totally autistic but I am totally not autistic" period from the beginning of 2008 until the end of 2010.

lolwut? I think I kicked that ransom guy in the balls and escaped when I was around 4-5 years old as my diagnosis was upgraded from classic Autism to HFA.

Well, you see, because of the way the campaign was phrased, because you were autistic, "it is you who is the ransom guy."

Really bizarre stuff, and playing up to this whole idea that trapped inside every autistic child is a neurotypical child fighting to break out.

There's a difference between not repeating your previous story while still expanding upon it and writing two separate articles that blame your son's behavior on two separate things (being misdiagnosed and medicated for the wrong things, and then autism).

Expecting consistency is not an absurd standard, and skepticism is a reasonable response when one story is presented in two different ways by the same person with no explanation.

Then I guess I would have to dummy it up by saying "this is my other speculation" "This is my other thought about why this may have happened" so people wouldn't be so skeptical because they be unable to figure that out themselves when I think it should be that obvious. This is how I communicate and I am finally realizing I have to dummy up my posts now since apparently people don't think or communicate like me. I wonder if it may have been the lack of TOM I had. Now I think all these people are just not very bright so I have to dummy it up for them.

I am now confused. Your first post was asking whether something else might be involved. Apple_in_my_eye provided more information that suggested that yes, it's possible that medications he took might be involved. I provided a link to that story and another story describing the treatment he's been given, for more information. Your reply sounded like you were objecting to skepticism about autism being the primary or only factor in her son's violence. So now, I have no idea what you are saying, or what it is that you think should be that obvious or why people shouldn't be so skeptical, and what does "people are just not very brought" mean?

Well I see it more as the impulsive darkness that shrouds your perception of reality. The frustration came from trying to comprehend a confusing world and I need more explicit understanding than an average child did for it to sink in. It hard to articulate it because my memory is so fuzzy and since I was between 2-5, I only have snippets of memory and testimonies by others regarding my behaviour to go by.

I only improved because behavioural modification therapies basically trained me to calm down and pay attention to the world around me, instead of isolating myself from it. The supportive nature of my parents played a huge role too. It's also a good reason why I get angry when some LFAs are written off, because the potential could be there and with all these negative portrayals; they are condemning individuals like me who were only LFA by behaviour at first to never progress, even if it's to a point where they can speak and function mostly on their own. This is because if parents feel disenfranchised by such excess negativity, they'll fall for either hopelessness or worse, bogus quick fixing 'cures' and squander money on that instead of things that could help.

Congrats on your upgrade.

Read the links provided by Verdandi. Electro shock, awful. She claims he was making progress but would slip back.

Brain damaging therapeutics. If her son is already catatonic, why does he need more damage?

i agree i dont like scare tactics and fear mongering.autistics are PEOPLE and sommetimes people are violent.autistics have done violent things unfortunatley.i dont see a conection with autism and vilolence at all,but people who have autism sometimes are driven to violence.we must deal with it to prevent these tragedies in the future
