I seem to have a habit of reaching a completely different conclusion about movies, than the general consensus of people. I thought Prometheus was great. The visuals were extraordinary. The atmosphere was as tense as the original Alien (especially the C section). Fassbender was excellent as the android.

Don't get the hate, sorry.

Am I the only one who liked Prometheus? I saw it twice, and will get the blu ray.

I also liked Alien 3, though I think I actually prefer the theatrical edition. I prefer the dog host for the alien, to the ox. And I like the chestburster coming out of Ripley at the end.

I also liked Prometheus and I am looking forward to watch it again.

I dont think that Alien 3 is a bad movie per se. The directors cut made it a decent movie to watch, a lot better than resourrection at least.
I really think the matter for me is scruples regarding expectations about theme and style.

I get it.

I'm a huge fan of the band Rancid. I absolutely loved Let's Go! and Out Come the Wolves. Those albums are very similar in character and tone--both are full of fast, rough songs that bleed into one another... When Rancid's 3rd album. Life Won't Wait came out, I snapped it up as fast as I could... I played it ONE TIME. I hated it and did not listen to it or any other "new" Rancid music again for about ten years!

The reason I hated the album is because it had betrayed and disappointed me. I played it expecting to hear more of the fast, rough, simple music I'd come to expect from Rancid... What I got was something a bit more polished, a bit more pop, and a bit more ska... I was outraged! How dare those selfish, rotten bastards do something different!

When their last album, Let The Dominoes Fall, came out a few years ago, I decided to give them another chance... I listened without expectations and was surprised to find myself enjoying the music so much. It certainly was not the old, fast, rough, Rancid I remembered. The Rancid who's songs bled together not only as a result of close cutting, but also because of lack of musical variation. This new Rancid I was meeting played rough, fast punk, but they also played ska, folk, rockabilly, etc.... And, THIS BAND WAS GOOD!

So, I went back and dusted off my copy of Life won't Wait and discovered (ten years late) my favorite punk album of all time! Finally freed from my preconceptions of what kind of music Rancid should play (and the sense of betrayal and disappointment it caused), I was able to appreciate the album for what it was rather than scorn it for what it wasn't.

I think the reason many people dislike and find so much fault with Prometheus is because they came in expecting it to be a variation on Alien (which is basically just a very well done monster movie).

Prometheus is not a monster movie. It is not a variation on Alien and because of this many people who went to see it feel betrayed and disappointed. Their feelings of betrayal and disappointment have blinded them to the merits of the movie.....

Given enough time, people will stop hating Prometheus for what it isn't and begin to appreciate it for what it is.

Prometheus isn't perfect, but it is a good movie. In years to come, more people will see that.

Other movies I like that everyone else seems to hate:

The Matrix (yes, all of them. I thought the sequels had some great ideas. Brave ones, for Hollywood. I find it hard to meet anyone else who likes the whole Matrix trilogy)

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (I thought it did a great job of bridging together the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. I thought the volcanic fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was exactly what I was waiting for)

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (It clearly is nowhere near the best film in the series. But it does have some excellent character moments between the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trinity which are reminiscent of the original series on TV. I think it's underrated)

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (C'mon. People are just too cynical to enjoy this sort of old school adventure serial anymore. Has Indy really changed that much, or have we? I thought it was a fun romp)

Alien vs Predator (I thought it was a fun, guilty pleasure romp. It was not perfect, of course, but as a 'switch your brain off' entertaining piece of fluff, it does the job. AVP Requiem was pretty god awful though)

So true, I kind of had the same feeling with this movie - that it - gets the things back on track. A kind of reestablishment of a unique franchising.
I think the scene where David is activating the alien computer and watches the holographic model of the universe is so great and wonderfull.

This movie's theme "ancient astronaut theory" is an exceting one. I like that Ridley Scott challenge himself with this theme. It is not something which is well tested on moviegoers.
So the movie's genre may be science fiction, but the theme is not the same which one saw in Alien and Aliens. This could lead us to say that Scott is taking a new path in regard to movie conventions.

This movie also has its own unique style* which I think is refreshing and needed in this genre. I watch Prometheus as a movie where the style is more important than the action made by the characters.

*The engineers presence/concept in the movie from the very start is a good example of a unique style

Still, i still like the Directors Cut of Alien 3.

I can top that:

I actually didn't mind "Alien: Resurrection."

It was okay in a 90s video-gamey sort of way.

Wow, someone who liked A. Ressurection.

That movie was well cast, i.e. Ron Perlman, the pony-tailed scientist, the "what's inside of me" guy, and even W. Ryder.

And it had a lot of (and perhaps too many) good lines.

"Earth? What a sh**hole. I'd rather stay here with the things."

"The potential benefits of this race go way beyond urban pacification."
("This is the police. Since this block party has not dispersed as ordered we are now releasing xenomorphs.")

"Must be a chick thing."

I think to appreciate Alien: Resurrection you have to understand it was made by a French director who was hired to put his slant on the series. I'm told that the movie he was know for directing "Delacatesent" is a horror/comedy. I thought Resurrection was well shot and technicly put together. The fact that it wasn't taking it's self too serriously wasn't too off putting but, I could see how it upset some people's expectations.

I think Alien Ressurection was almost a tongue in cheek take on the whole series. It was also very gratuitous in that it seemed to me the producers just decided "oh we need to do another." It was funny and exciting in parts but I thought it was a pointless film in the end. The creature at the end was just stupid.

I thought that there was too much humor for an Alien movie, to the point that I wish it could be declared apocryphal.

Thank you. The magic word in this context is excatly, "apocryphal". This movie has indeed taken its own very special path. But still.. a path that is very conforming and very true to the standard conventions.

The somewhat ill-timed comicbook style its french twist*, and to many action cliches combined with immature humor gives this movie a style which I believe dosen't fit in the alien franchise.
And whats even worse, this also provides a dismantling and demystifying effect on the unique horror embedded in the alien creature.

* Not that there are anything wrong with french movies, not at all. And I like other movies from Jean Pierre, but....grrrrr :x he should not have messed with the alien franchise

The first movie I saw in the "Alien" franchise was actually "Resurrection."

I found it to be an enjoyable "popcorn" movie, and it inspired me to check out the others. Now that I've seen the entire series (and am working on reading the novels), I can easily see where A:R wasn't up to par with the rest. Mostly it was a case of a major tone shift, missed potential, and a really, really stupid alien/human hybrid.

That said, I still found it an enjoyable popcorn flick. And watching Ripley kicking butt is always fun.

It was like a parody of the whole franchise

Boring and predictable. The birth of the creature at the end lowered it into the realm of ridiculous.
