My son is 7, and played Saturday basketball through his school district last year. It was kind of painful to watch, especially the warm-ups. The coaches had all the kids run, shuffle, etc. up and down the court. They had to wait in between exercises for my son to finish, and often he wasn't even doing the exercise right (kind of half-running instead of shuffling and such). But, he really enjoyed himself and was oblivious to any "issues" he had. So I thought screw it, as long as he's having fun that's all that matters.
Once he gets a little older, though, he probably won't want to participate anymore.
