There are jobs you can get working from home. The ones where you are promised big rewards for filling in forms, or doing something ill-specified to do with posting Google links, or free products for you to try out are scams though.
To work from home you need to be able to create something valuable in your own home. An example would be writing computer code, eg. an app, and selling it. You could also work remotely for a client, picking up jobs from elancer.com, though you will be up against Indian outsourcers and the wage will be low.
Another example would be creating an object for sale, possibly selling it on Etsy. Again, it's tough to make a decent wage, and most people make just a few pounds.
You could also create media, blogs or videos. This is a really hard way to make money as a lot of people are doing it. I had a pretty high traffic blog which brought in about £50 a year, it's tough and only the top few percent will make good money from it. It takes either great skill, or great social skill.
