I wonder if having a sub-forum for individuals who identify as having more "severe" [whatever those individuals decide that to mean] form of autism or neurodiversity would reduce some of the tension present in the General Autism forum [Asperger vs. Autism, HFA vs. LFA, ect.]. If such individuals would prefer, perhaps a feature could be added that makes the sub-forum only accessible to those who have "Other autism spectrum disorder" under "Diagnosis" in the profile [or, while I'm hypothetically re-vamping the site here, something along the lines of "Classic Autism," "PDD-NOS (moderate or severe)," or "Autism Spectrum Disorder, Axis (2 or 3)"]. The issue with this, however, is that this may inhibit discussion between well-intentioned, non-malicious individuals. Another hostility-reducing option, if one is needed, is to have an addition Terms of Service for this specific form that emphasizes the intolerance of malicious behavior [and perhaps one that limits or forbades any discussion of superiority or "Why we're not like them"] that members would also have to agree to before posting in this forum (again, programming allowing).
[TL;DR- LFA/Moderate and Severe Autism Subforum ?? ]
On a similar vein, I wonder if the General Autism forum should be split into sections such as "Diagnosis Questions" ["Do I/insert person here have autism/Aspergers?", "What will the assessment be like?", "Should I get a diagnosis?", "I finally got a diagnosis!", "Why my diagnosis/lack thereof is wrong," ect], "Theories" ["New study shows link between autism and ____", anything to do with vaccines and autism, "Environmental influences on autism," "Autistics are aliens/Starseeds/A New Evolution/Neanderthals/Part Dolphin, ect.], "Treatments" ["Try this diet!", "Does therapy really work?" "How to stop stimming/being so blunt/taking things literally," ect.], "Assessments" ["AS Quiz/AQ Quiz/EQ/IQ/Psychopathy score"], "Health" (well, this would be more of its own subforum than a subforum based off of General Autism Discussion), and...well, okay, I still see the need for a forum in which autism in general can be discussed ["Misc. Autism Discussion?"].
...there's a reason I don't run forums.
