Clean your rooms, tidy the garden or look for alternative online entertainment?

I passed some time on another site: http://www.aspiescentral.com/

Just tried your link, but the site doesn't work. I just get the following message which never goes away:

I allowed around 60 seconds, not just 5!

We're no longer investigating, but going into detail about the incident would expose operational details about the site infrastructure that we aren't able to disclose.

There was a failure that triggered an automated recovery procedure that was unsuccessful, and due to the way the failure presented itself and a misconfiguration, monitoring notifications were not sent.

Just tried again and same thing. It appears to be stuck in an infinite loop. After every 5 seconds it reloads the page again. The browser tab title keeps switching between "Just a moment..." and "Connecting".

Hmmm. Waste of time. I registered on the site then tried to login but it said my password was invalid. Tried to do a password reset/request and it claims (incorrectly) that my email address is incorrect. F*ck it. More bugs than WP!

When the site was down, I checked out wrongplanet on twitter to see if I could find any info about it, but I didn't find anything. It would be helpful if the twitter was updated to let us know what's going on.

I tried that too and agree it would have been helpful.

Don't have Twitter, don't want Twitter. :P

The CloudFlare error page said that the site was down, which is what had happened.
While I would have preferred to see a "WP branded" page announcing that, it appears that the errors encountered would have prevented that from being displayed even if one had been implemented.
At that time, the cause of the problem was unknown, so it wouldn't be possible to give an estimate of when the site would return - therefore the CloudFlare page pretty much said all that was possible to say about the situation.

2) http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/

at which point you go to

3) http://www.darwinawards.com/

The site has been pretty unstable for a while, I hope Alex or whoever the powers that be upgrade the forum software or whatever soon since it seems to be getting worse. Pretty much every time I post there is some sort of error message. Somebody had sent me a PM but they didn't realize it never went thru and then when I replied to their 2nd one, it did the same thing to me and I had to send another one too for it to actually send.

Occasionally when I send PMs to members CloudFlare steps in and insists I enter a catcha without actually showing me one; at which point I just abandon the PM. The site has an endless (and increasing) number of problems. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the site went down one day and that was the end of it... the database having reached some insurmountable limit or unable to respond to any queries/posts without the server failing to complete. I suggest that if anyone is keen to keep in touch with certain other members that they swap email details or have a backup plan to meet / use another autism/asperger site. That way, if things finally do go tits up on WP they can remain in contact with their friends.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! ! The site can't die, it just can't!! !!

Something really really needs to be done so that that doesn't happen. I know everyone keeps saying that, but it is really true. Something must be done!

That's how I feel it will end up eventually too, either that or just a slow bleed of ever increasing problems causing more and more people to leave on their own which is probably even worse then it just never coming back up one day. I know Alex is a busy guy and this is a pretty large forum but I'm guessing its been run on the same software for the last 10 years, I don't ever remember any changes. Using a newer VB or whatever board would probably solve a lot of the problems and you probably could get some outside live technical support with it too. I know on VB at least that the site owner and head administrator can delegate a lot of authority which would help a lot keeping the forum afloat when they're not around a lot. Not only that, newer forums are way more customizable and have a ton of extras you can add. It's not terribly complicated and doesn't cost that much AFAIK so I hope that it gets looked into sooner rather than later. This place is on borrowed time with this software.
