you'd be a good Christian then

seriously tho, do you see it as religion? i see it more as a heart relationship with God the father, his son via the holy spirit.

as Albert the Great (i think) once said "The Trinity can be seen as Lover, Beloved, and love. God,Son,Spirit"

I am an Christian because I believe it is ultimately right and I will be guarennteed eternal life if I believe in Jesus. Also I enjoy the ritual and reading the bible and being closer to God.

Peace to their shades. The pure Culdees (Cele de)

By foot of Saxon monk was trod.

Here is something I wrote in my Myspace blog the night before last which describes how I view my faith:

Something has hit me in the past week. I realized that I must make a choice to be a Christian or not. In other words, I cannot be "sort of" a Christian. If I am going to be one, it must be my life. By this I don't so much mean that I have suddenly become convicted of the truth of Christianity--on the contrary, I have started to face a lot of doubts about my faith (though I have been convicted also of its truth). The difference is that in the past, I might have looked at those doubts and decided to not give myself completely, to back off from actively living my faith, because you don't want to give yourself completely to something you aren't positive about.

If Christianity is true, it is the biggest truth in the World. Christ didn't claim his way to be a good way to live. He claimed his way was TRUTH. Thats the difference. Christianity isn't about finding a way that works best for you. It is about giving yourself completely to a way that is the truth. You don't just follow it when its convenient. If I follow a value when it works for me, its not even a value really. Its just doing whats easiest. It is only when it is hard that you follow something that you know it is something worth giving yourself over to completely.

What if Christianity is wrong? I don't know everything. As I said before, I have doubts. If its wrong, I can't just pretend its kind of right, just in case. Those things that bring doubt aren't things that chip away at the truth of Christianity until you find that a good portion was true or true in general. If it is true, those doubts can be explained or I am misinterpreting the truth. A cloud in front of the sun doesn't lessen the light from the sun. Beyond the cloud, the sun shines forth as bright as ever. We just can't see it.

If I don't beleive in Christianity, I feel it is dishonest to pretend like you believe it is, to beleive something is true, but isn't what it says it is--Christ never said he was sort of the Son of God, or that God watches us some of the time. So to say you believe in Christ, but not to beleive or act like you actually believe what He says is dishonest. If Christ was not the Son of God, he was a liar of crazy. If he was telling the sane truth, it is a truth worth dying for.

I choose to continue in my faith actively rather than abandon it. But I feel that if the conclusion I came to is that I can't live out my faith actively, I would not continue it. But I am. Because it is the truest thing I have known. I cannot deny that whisper, that feeling, the memories of meeting God. Even if they were to prove false, I have devoted too much of my life to it to simply abandon it because there are doubts, doubts far outshadowed by proofs.

So how am I going to live my life for Christ?

One: My actions. follow the basic moral standards set forth in the bible, to keep my body and mind clean. No drunkenness or sexual impurity, physical or mental. No vengeful thoughts, no dishonesty, no lying. No hurtful speech. No dishonoring of myself, others, or God through my actions. And of course countless other actions I must choose to take or not to take

Two: My witness. I cannot force it on anyone and I believe in sharing it with the willing. That means telling people my own story and the importance of my faith in my life. If others want what I have I will help them get it. If they do not, I only hope they will at some point, but either way it is my duty to love, not to change someone but because God has commanded it. But part of love is to share the love of God, so I will continue to share whenever I can.

Three: Communion with God. By this I mean worship, prayer, and scripture. Part of that communion with him is giving over to him any worries I have or doubts about my future. To commune with God involves the mental processes, and this means to keep my mind trusting in his will for my future. Everything else is contingent on my communion with God. My actions and my witness rely on it.

Corvus, e-mail me and i will be happy to answer your questions... i warn you though, you may not like them tho.

it is my experience that even when answers are given, they are ignored and the question repeated again as if it were some mystical ward against Christians  .

but as long as you are willing to be a reasonable objective unbiased human being, then i can help ya :)

Super, I will pm you shortly (if I dont forget) as I'm at work.

I just debated one, over the last week, and have counted at least 4 contradictions, 1 of them happening immediately after I called him on it.

But I warn you, you may not like the questions I ask. My friend said I asked the "wrong questions" but that was because he couldnt answer them. He, too, found himself repeating himself but only because he was telling me answers using someone else words, such as quotes and assumptions based not out of logic, but stories within the bible. Right there, he ignored a universal truth - logic. Do you believe in "Noah?" because we can start there.

I do not accept 'bible' quotes as answers, I do not consider 'the bible' proof of anything (because then every book is proof of something but 'talk is cheap' and 'actions count'). I do not except that 'its beyond our comprehension' as an answer as its not an answer, its the same as "I dont know."

I am unbiased, however, I do not believe in the stories, only the PRACTICE of the religion which relates to 'peace' and 'good LIVING.' Traits characteristic to ALL religions (I'm open to them all but contradictions have led me to philosophy, we can discuss that)

You may, when you have some time, ponder WHY people keep asking the same questions. My friend said I did but that was because he either contradicted himself from a previous answer he gave or his answer was a 'beat around the bush' type. But, you may also try and figure out why this problem exists and that it may not be others with the problem. It may be a problem with the belief itself but I will continue to listen and always do, I just don't accept everything, much like anyone else wouldn't.

i was asking what is it you believe about our Lord, and why?

the way i put it is a rephrasing of what the Apostle Paul exorted all Christian to do when they are asked about their faith... (its in one of the letters its late and i dont remember exactly where but its there)

I am Christian, I dont consider myself part of any denominations (I have been to Baptist and Methodist churches), I dont even like the idea of denominations. Although my faith has been tested alot recently I still consider myself a Christian.
