Its midday, and the first four and half pages of "General Autism" is filled with messages from what seems to be one person's bot trying to sell us snake oil.A new low in succumbing to spam.

Thats a lot of deleting to do.

Wish that there was some way to spam them back.

The spam is indeed getting out of hand.
I really hope something can be done about it.

There is. We have their phone number. 8)

Now if you will excuse me, I have some prank calling to do.

There are now almost 5 1/2 pages of spam threads in GAD, by five different spammers. I've reported them.

I really think it's time to change things where new members have to have their posts approved by a moderator before they're allowed. The spamming has really gotten out of hand, almost to the point where you don't want to click on the GAD thread. The forums I've been on that requires new member posts to be approved by a moderator for a short time seem to have fewer problems with spambots.

What is happening? In all my time here on WP, I have never seen Spam this intense before.

One thing I've suggested is to make it so that threads containing words such as "vashikaran", "baba" or phone numbers are not creatable.

It's like the two Airplane movies.

A reasonable limit for new accounts would be to start no more than 2 threads a day until they have 100 posts to their name. And maybe limit to 5 posts a day on existing threads until they have 100 posts to their name.

And if those posts are spam, then they should be removed from the system.

We have a spam problem because we rely on that putrid CloudFlare instead. CloudFlare is as big a disease as are the spammers.

I actually would not recommend that solution...this site would move even slower than the spam causes it to if a moderators had to approve every single post before its posted, I mean its not like its a paying job. I certainly think a better idea is having a set amount of time you need to be a member on the site with limits on posting till you've been an active member for a certain amount of time. It seems others here have also suggested that kind of thing.

That would help, considering most contain at least one of those things.

hey, i wouldn't mind to get paid for checking boxes.

no matter how many useful and practical suggestions we get (and most of what i read here is), it will not matter as long as there is no one to implement them. :( :x our last remaining not alex admins left a year and a half ago.

for anyone still wondering how spammers get away with it, they can because to my knowledge the cloudflare captcha does not trigger when posting a new thread or when posting without a quote (minus some instances)

it's set up to trigger when quoting, or posting in established threads which spammers never do anymore.

we're defending from a side that the enemy never attacks.

i bet if there was a captcha that ONLY triggered when starting a thread in GAD, many of our grievances would be over.
